Thanks again for all your comments. Particularly helpful to be alerted to socket issue. I took these pics before the builder replaced the sockets with some nice chrome ones. (see new pics) However, he's still got them in the wrong place. Will raise that today. He hasn't actually finished the hood area in these pictures - as I stopped him. But also the chimney extractor doesn't seem to be functioning so it needs to come down anyway. This solves this problem and we can tile behind it - although I'm still worried that he's not going to be able to redo the job well enough. I've added some more pics with better light. Still finishing the floor and just have to adjust and tweak a few things but (apart from tiling) nearly there! The kitchen is Howdens Burford Grey, Pure White Quartz from Master Quartz (not been impressed with this as marking so easily with pans, belt buckles, any kind of grime - but probably shouldn't have chosen white! - anyone else had problems with their quartz?), Paint mainly F&B Wimborne White and Slipper Satin woodwork, engineered oak floor from Howdens.

You need an L shaped carcase that is normally 900 x 900mm. It fits into the corner and then both doors open. You can have both doors open together or have them open individually. This then gives you access to the whole area. If you do not have space for this size and have to have a long base unit e.g. 1000mm then you will need some sort of chrome pull out to save kneeling to grab what's stored at the back. Don't buy cheap chromeworks. They're a waste of money and time. Do opt for a decent brand like Hafele.

Unfortunately The Ikea planner doesn't show you the vaulted ceiling and that will make the room feel tall and narrow - by adding tall cabinetry on both sides you are accentuating that ... the software I design on allows me to put together a truer rendition of the room - with the ceilings vaulted etc to start with - and gives you a much clearer and image of the final result ... for that service on a room this size we are taking about the same price as a good dishwasher ... on the whole it's a small part of your overall spend - but allows you to shop around and compare like for like - negotiate deals and basically stay in control of your project ( as I work with you on the layout - suggesting and taking on board your ideas and wishes too ). I work independently and don't sell product. So you are then free to use the plans and get quotes, which are easier to compare, and then buy from where you like. The other way is the more traditional route of asking a few different companies to come over, survey, design, propose and go through their design and prices . But you should get a few quotes - so this may take quite a bit of time !

Tbh I’d say keep the tv in proportion to the actual size of room and then look for possible fixing methods, a lot of people do the opposite, get a tv the size of a wall and wonder where to put it, nothing looks worse that a tv to big for a room in my eyes.
