With such lovely generous proportions, you could certainly get away with the largest format, and I would certainly "brick" them. That said, I'd have a word with your tiler and make sure he is happy to work with such monster tiles (they'll weigh a ton!) and has the necessary equipment to cut & shape such large items. Check that the costs will not escalate - I know that some tilers will charge a premium from working with such large formats because of the challenges. I have a supplier who can provide me with 3m x 1m tiles. I jokingly asked one of my tilers if he'd mind fitting just 6 tiles quickly for me - he gave a colourful response when I showed him the details in the catalogue!! Fortunately for him, I wouldn't be able to get them into the showroom without cutting them in two first - rather defeats the purpose though...

I did originally plan for shaker cupboards above with push to open mechanism, but whilst working with the designer I changed my mind. There were some issues with practicality. I also want them to be wide horizontally rather than vertically, which didn’t look right when I saw the plans. The handleless units look exactly as I want, so I’m going to go for it! However, I do have push to open shaker cupboards on the wall in another area, but it’s not a cooking or eating area. Difficult to explain. They are tall, vertical, traditional looking ones. When looking at the finished plan it looks fine because the push to open shaker style cupboards can be seen not too far from some tall shaker cupboards, whereas the handleless ones aren’t near any other tall or wall units. I’m not sure I’ve explained that very well, but the plans and walkthroughs all look good.

Following because we're planning a loft ensuite and I'll be interested what people say. Our main bathroom is small and fully tiled with fairly large tiles (done by previous owners) and I've never really liked it. But I worry too many changes in material would make a small room look smaller

Whatever tile you choose, do not install the small upstand - it is not needed if you are tiling the wall and it will make the wall appear even shorter. Make sure your worktop installer knows you don't want the upstand as you are tiling and therefore needs to do a good job and not leave a big gap at the back of the worktop - tile should cover whatever small gap might be left.
