Kitchen colour scheme help!

After weeks of battling with designs we are finally happy with our new kitchen layout but are still really struggling to make a decision on the look - cabinet colours and worktop.

This is not our forever house so we're reluctant to make a very bold decision but I really don't want it to be boring. Space is light, airy, very open plan with light engineered oak flooring. Dining area has a vaulted ceiling and bifold doors onto the garden. We are also having shelving along the sink run wall.

We're currently thinking of a mix of F&B Railings with Ammonite for cabinets with very light grey quartz worktop but would greatly appreciate any ideas! - Many thanks!

You could spend many weeks deciding on the colours. We have over 1,100 real customer kitchens here that may be able to give you some design inspiration.

Hello You are at the planning stages of your design, how exciting. Industrial is such a great look, when we design this type of scheme for our clients we like to mix industrial elements with period style. So crittal windows with Victorian style floor tiles. Or industrial light fittings mixed with squishy unpholstery pieces such as sofas and armchairs. This will help soften the overall aesthetic, which as you suggest can be hard if not balanced with softer elements. Take a look at some of our interiors projects for inspiration. Mixing period detailing and styles from different eras such as mid century, Scandinavean and 70's with classic industrial elements such as exposed bricks, metal detailing will give you a more interesting and original take on this style. Hello, our customer had rustic ivory kitchen painted doors - she also chose leathered steel grey granite worktops (much softer, than say a polished granite worktop) and she choose a beautiful blue colour for her walls which I personally think went fantastically well together (and then her red range cooker also went beautifully with her colour scheme. Hi Lucy. The kitchen looks quite a grey blue on my screen. I would go for a copper kettle and toaster. Also brighten the worktop by adding potted herbs and some wooden boards. I would then look at shades of orange, coral, terracotta or blush for either chairs or cushions for the chairs. I think an orangey tan leather would also work as would a copper chair. I might go for a sisal rug to add some texture and lighten the floor a little, you can get ones with both honey and grey tones in or instead add pattern (depending on chair choice). I'd also add a large potted plant in the corner by the bay and utility. Art with blues in and a touch of an orangey colour too.

I had my kitchen by Howdens and I noticed silly things like cupboards hinged the wrong way or odd sized wall cupboards ie. left had was 450 and right hand was 500. Luckily I'm a designer so picked up on it so I'd advise double checking all sizes and hinges etc. I would definitely start neutral and see how you feel once everything is in. Painting a wall takes no time at all and better to get it right than try do everything at once. I have a blackboard wall in my kitchen, everyone thought I was mad doing a wall in black but it looks very effective and doesn't effect the light at all.

Hi Alfred - thanks for your comment! I'm still pondering that too but likely quartz, white/very pale grey, minimal veining. Waiting for a quote for Dekton aswell but I'm not as keen on the colours.

Hi Helen,

Quartz is a fantastic material with some beautiful options. However you should look at Corian as you get a seamless finish when you continue this up the walls as your splash back. This will be really practical for behind the sink. The best advise I can give you is to keep it all very simple, therefore when you place this property on the market the new owners will fall in love with it. I would use railings on your pantry doors to give a nice colour contrast.
