Hi Sharon, why not install an interesting victorian wall panelling? Like the one on the link below and photos attached. You can paint it in any colour and it’s an elegant, contemporary solution for English bathrooms. If the space is small then I think you should keep to one type of tile for the floors and walls. If you don’t tile one wall make sure you tile up that wall a skirting board height (tricks your eye into thinking the floor is bigger). Don’t worry about tiling behind the wc, you can access the workings of the cistern through the removable flush plate- I had to completely replace the flushing mechanism in one of mine and it was only a 10 minute job despite feeling like it was keyhole surgery!
