Kitchen colour scheme..help!

Hi all, I previously posted on here and got some brilliant advice. So I’m back!
Moving into a new build in April. The kitchen layout is terrible and the choice of cupboard/worktop available has been disappointing.
I know it’s difficult to judge on photo, but could I have some opinions?
After hours deliberating yesterday we chose the dark grey gloss cabinet and the lightest coloured worktop. The worktop has little grey flecks in it, but isn’t a bright white colour if that makes sense. More of an off white.
Will the pure white tiles clash with the worktop, as in there isn’t enough of a contrast between the two??I asked opinions of the people in there and most thought it didn’t quite look right. Hence why we came up with the second option of the grey work top, which would contrast better with the white tiles but if I’m honest I just don’t really like it. It looks too clinical to me.
I was thinking perhaps some grey grout around the white tiles would make it look better against the light work top??
Any opinions gratefully received. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I know we won’t have the money to alter it for many years. Thanks :)

PRO8 years agoI personally, and let's face it, it's personal preference, would go for the mid grey or darker greys, with white tiles and paler grey or white grout.

Comments (17)I think it depends what your vibe is. Some people like saturated clean vibrant colours, some people (like myself) prefer muted earthy colours and lots of texture. I would also think about colour temperature. White walls, emerald green and grey may appear quite cool (temp) as a scheme, and as Esma pointed out, the value contrast between the curtains and wall will be very dominant. Its really difficult when you only have tiny samples, the carpet looks lovely, but it is hard to see what 'colour' it will appear when it's over a whole area. I am definitely with Beano about mustard and amber in terms of going with grey. Here are some images which show deep cool greens with white and amber (which includes wood). To me, the cognac, amber, tan leather (or whatever we call it) looks fab with white and lends a lovely mellow 70's vibe to the rooms. Comments (13)Yes I think the tv wall could be a different, bolder shade. Navy (of course), deep green or a blend of the two like F&B Inchyra Blue. You get the idea in Marina’s mock up of that wall. I have painted over wallpaper in the past as I was too lazy to strip the paper off. It was okay! Don’t forget you can add more colour with accessories. It is your home so choose colours you love. 8 years agoI don't know..but I heard when we built, cupboard should match splash back, floor should match bench.
ie light floors, light bench, light cupboards light splash back etc
We followed that advice and it has worked for us, but we went boring beige tiles, off white cupboards and brown Lino to match burnished wood laminate benches! This was 7 yrs ago..rules may have changed.
We didn't do shiny anywhere..

8 years agoAgree with @clourhappy we still haven’t set our minds on wall covering.Collecting samples taking them home and seeing it against what we have. We have off white/cream gloss units, grey Samsung quarts worktops and grey floor. So far I’m leaning towards backsplash that incorporate natural tones of the two ,natural stones but just taking lots of inspiration from here & online until I make my mind up.good luck It’s totally down to personal preference, go with what you love.:)
