You won’t make a small room look bigger no matter how you try, so I would embrace its cosiness and go for a wallpaper you love. Florals and botanical prints would look amazing. Murals need a big wall to be effective, I feel. However that boardwalk mural looks incredible. So let your imagination go wild!

If you want more of an open-plan space I would suggest removing the wall between the living room and the kitchen, and closing the entrance into the kitchen from the hallway. If you want a wall separating the two, move the wall to the corner where the narrow part of the living room starts and add a door there once you know where you want to place appliances & figured out plumbing etc. Either way this will give you more room to put in counter space and storage. I quite like the idea of having the sink looking out the window and there is probably enough space for an island as well. As for the WC, I would try and separate it from the kitchen for obvious reasons and quite like where Oslea place the WC, depending on how big you make the kitchen.

Under the stairs if they are enclosed is the least intrusive space. You could also steal a bit of space from the kitchen if necessary. This may not be possible as I do not know where the fridge/freezer etc is located. Looking at the bathroom above you would want to keep it in roughly the same location downstairs as moving items like the soil pipe is very expensive. It depends on your future plans for the kitchen though.

Minnie 101 - Looking back at your idea there does seem to be a bit of space would allow me to bring door forward, even after saying it wouldn't work so my apologies. Only problem is we may still need a door there still with regulations if we boarded up that kitchen wall, unless you mean keeping the kitchen door and having a door after the new toilet? Laura234- I really do like that idea but as you say with it being a big job it would be very expensive. I would be interested in knowing the cost of it though. Tab darcy - thats an idea I suggested to my partner and even suggested having a longer breakfast bar but he wants to bring the kitchen backwards so we have more space in the dining room. Bringing the kitchen back would mean the wall would not be in line for the pocket door. I really can't think of a solution. My partner was really set on having the kitchen of his dreams, which i can actually visualise but still bothers me with the layout. Part of me thinks it may be ok as the cooking area (near the front) wouldn't be in sight of the toilet, so you wouldn't see it its just if you was behind the breakfast bar you would. You would see it from the dining room but wouldn't see it from the living room, and we plan on putting the tele on the wall I have in the photo below, which may drown the noise of going the toilet. Even though I say "it may be ok" i am still doubting the layout. The reason having the tele on that wall and not on far left is we want our corner couch there (even though the architect put the couch in wrong position) We have discussed to keep the kitchen as it but he wouldn't want to decorate the kitchen (but i do) which would save money but isn't happy given thats all he was excited about and always wanted it open so he could talk to people while he is cooking. He has litrally got this visioned in his head since day one and i feel bad crushing it but we are struggling to compromise. I really like the idea of putting in a hatch but he doesn't like it and as i say he wants make dining room bigger.
