Glass splash-back help

Hello,

My wife and I are struggling on which option to go for on our back-splash. We want to go for glass, and have 3 current options. A blue glass one that matches the colour of the island, or a smokey ash (right middle in photo) or smokey mirrored option (bottom). However we are struggling to make a decision (is the mirror option a too glam?), so would like to know what anyone thought, or indeed they maybe other options.

Our kitchen is gloss handless too although we have a charcoal island. We chose a smokey grey mirror which we love and ties the kitchen together well - so on that basis, the blue should do the same too

Does the bronze one have some kind of distressing on it? I assume you've discounted that one? I like it with the dark blue and it picks up the floor colour. Do you have a link to that one and the mirror option so can see the pattern on a larger scale?

Yes the bronze does have the distressing on as well, I will try and hunt on houzz for images, but we were struggling to visualize which one would go.

My daughter has glass splash backs, painted on the back in white by the handy man who installed them. We had a glass splash back installed behind the hob which was professionally painted white and installed by the company specialising in this. I am still delighted by it and the ease of cleaning it - and it looks no better than my daughter's which was installed several years earlier than ours. Both look like new even now. Sometimes it is better to have what you really want - you will be living with it for a long time.

Are you keeping the white sockets - because if so they will really stand out against the darker toned ones? You did ask if anyone had other ideas, personally as everything is smooth and shiny I would break it up with some tiles to create interest. You could always pick out a colour in the floor and use a tile that has that in it.

We have to agree with the rest of the group here - the blue would look really lovely. Some sort of decorative item might look nice there as well to break up the solids a bit.

I love the patterns as suggested by colourhappy. I was going to suggest the glass spashback, not mirror. After seeing the pics with patterned tiles I think that is on my list for my new kitchen!

I saw this and thought of your post. I have antique mirror (not bronze antique lile this one) in my kitchen and absolutely love it; makes the room look so light and so much bigger.

Finally I have one in a Dark Blue - I don't have a better image unfortunately. We did notice it did darken the niche area when it was installed a lot....this may be a contributing factor in your decision...

Definitely go for the blue. If you want to "lift" it a little further, I'd add a really subtle "shimmer" to the paint (most good splashback fabricators have this option for negligible additional cost - if any) and good under-counter lighting.

And please change the white sockets for something nicer - a brushed stainless, gun-metal, copper or some such. They cost so little in the grand scheme of things, and I have a pet hate for beautiful new kitchens spoiled by cheap plastic sockets!

As to the antiqued mirror options - I know these a very "in" at the moment, and we certainly get plenty of interest, to express a personal opinion, I think that trend will burn out quite quickly.

@Delyth - love what you've achieved with the Orla Kiely wallpaper! If you don't mind me asking, what (if anything) have you used to adhere the wallpaper to the glass? Am I right in thinking you've screwed the splashback to the wall?

I've beep pondering on what might be achievable with wallpapers or fabrics and clear glass splashbacks, but want to avoid screwing through them, as our customers are not generally a fan of that. I like the idea of having the "texture" of wallpaper or fabric add another dimension to the splashback.
