Replacing / Moving Boiler

Moving into an 1890s cottage. 3 bedroom with 2 reception rooms. Has an old boiler which is currently situated upstairs in a box room. I'm thinking of replacing the boiler and also putting in a new kitchen. Is there any real advantage to moving the boiler downstairs into the kitchen? The box room at present has boiler and some space for storage, and my only real use for it would be shelving / storage.
I'm also thinking of changing the electric shower, as don't like them and would prefer one that runs off a combi boiler. Bit naive with this sort of thing, so wondered if there was anything I needed to consider in this respect.
Many thanks.
