Smarten/modernise exterior
Comments (18)muttleyz, glad to hear it's improving (the lawn, that is). If moss and weed appear to form most of the problems this may be a least in part due to a build up of thatch at the surface level. There appears to be no source of day-long shadow which would be the other prime suspect. Scarifying would help and for that size of lawn you could do it by hand with a fairly cheap metal lawn rake. Looking at the variation in colour in your picture you will probably take up quite a lot of thatch by raking in all four directions in turn. Make sure you press down at least a little so you're not just raking over the sward. Moss hates bright natural daylight and thatch gives it shade whilst holding the moisture at surface level to feed it. With only the correct amount of thatch left, i.e. a small amount, light and water get to the grass roots, the grass becomes a whole lot healthier and virtually smothers the weeds, usually with only a minimum of help if any needed from fertilisers or weedkillers. The unobservant may not notice the lawn has improved yet they will discern the whole place looks somehow brighter, cleaner, without being able to ascertain why. In reply to an earlier comment, understanding how that works is hardly a weakness....See MoreDoes neutral decor really sell a home?
Comments (29)No such thing as a "run of the mill" house if I'm involved! : ) ) Teasing aside though, every house/flat/apartment or room for that matter, can present itself to it's full potential and is just waiting to be unlocked..So for me that means colour dark or light.. I never see a home, room or space I cannot instantly imagine and make beautiful... There is always a way.. Buyers see visuals first so making an impact can be rather important with competition! A house should really sell itself.. With so much competition it's got to be how attractive it is to get it noticed, and then... is it in my budget....Every other checklist happens after those initial two. Assuming you have already decided on a location..... I do agree though the display of one's sock collection or the latest in Aussie bum pants are not desirable! : ))...See MoreExterior painting colours
Comments (2)I think the choice of colours sounds fabulous. Dark Grey trims, windows, door etc will look very elegant against the pale grey of the boards to match the roof. Here's an example where i've started painting the house in that mannerYou will note the dark grey trim, windows, porch etc, This is what it looks like with the colours transposed, so you have the dark on the boards, the light on the trims, windows, door etc, just all depends on which one you like the most. I personally prefer number 2 I think, it's a little more imposing! Here are some others finished:- They all went for the white trims, windows etc, which i think is a little boring these days. The last house you will note was the one being transformed in the top two pics....See MoreMy boring 1950's bungalow frontage needs a make over please!
Comments (2)Maybe you just need some wood panels over the current painted section? or ridged metal/colorbond on each end with wood in the middle? to achieve a more modern exterior....See MoreDivine Design
