I'm repainting my living room. I bought what was labelled 'smooth white' in Homebase, painted a coat and then waited till the morning. Have now realised it's actually blue and they labelled the pot wrong. After seeing the blue I am now thinking that I might repaint it plain white. The room has east and west facing windows and gets a lot of sun in the afternoon. My other thought was a light grey or an off-white?
My end goal is to have a minimalistic living room with lots of plants that feels airy and fresh but cozy?

I wouldn't paint it pure white as it can look a bit cold. I have a small lounge that is East and West facing and I have painted it Farrow and Ball Clunch and also 2 walls Farrow and Ball Light Grey 16. The room feels sunny and light but doesn't look overly creamy, just right. Your sofas are really lovely, it reminded me of this image.

Just wondering how you could possibly think that was white?....I actually think it is really nice, but doesn't go with the sofas if they are staying?

Thank you all so much for responding. I like the idea of green. We have large french doors looking into the garden and I think this might reflect and compliment the outside and so detract somewhat from the floor. It was properly sealed with Lithofin which was the recommended product and we have had it cleaned by a specialist company using diamond floor pads. We've been told it's just the natural composition of the stone manifesting itself! The upshot is instead of it being a lovely off white all over its streaked with brown giving an overall beigey/light brown appearance. It was a basement renovation so floor was previously concrete. It's such a large area that it makes quite an impact.

I'd also go for white on the walls. Try little greene slaked lime. Your windows look very similar to their mid lead colour so I'd go for the dark lead on the front door and frame. I assume you're not adding door furniture so a porch light would also signify the main entrance. Once you have steps and plants/pots etc it should stand out as the front door. You could also try painting pots in the dark lead to coordinate. Maybe also make the front door steps a little grander.

Thanks :) Hopefully worktops should be done within the next week. My husbands done everything himself plus he's never done anything like this before, hence why it's taking so long! but he's a perfectionist so I don't mind. No sofa yet, still unsure of what to go with plus I keep changing my mind on blinds lol. I'm so indecisive! :)

Thanks Jonathan for your reply, i did not even look at french grey but i can see what you mean. Anyhow i wanted to get a couple of protective coats on before winter so went for the basic traditional Magnolia as other houses have this too in the street. Pic attached at moment but any suggestion about painting the already painted red tiles a dark grey remembering im going for black door and garage door? 2nd picture is a rubbish photoshop from my phone if you squint your eyes anyone think it looks OK?

Are you sure they labelled the post wrong? Perhaps that's just the name they invented? To me it looks grey not blue but sometimes we have the camera to thank for that. I quite like the colour but it doesn't go with the suite.

So, yes they did label it wrong - we bought two pots of 'smooth white' and they were different colours.

Thanks for the help everyone! The sofas will be staying so I think we will not stick with the blue.

The blue keeps sofas looking much fresher and more contemporary. I'd say keep it. A fortunate mistake!!

It's perfectly classic to put blue-grey and terracotta together. (Quite literally in the case of half-glazed pottery). How about staying with the blue but, for the 'cosiness' you want, accentuating one wall in a terracotta that blends with the suite colour? You'd get a 'tone on tone' effect for at least one of the sofas, which would soften the repetitive 'X-piece suite-'ness of them whilst celebrating their colour and drawing attention to their rather lovely form. (I mean, in the case of a sofa set against a wall of almost the same colour, you 'read' the shape more than the colour). Then it's a case of using your accessories to tip the balance more towards the 'cold' blue or the 'warm' terracotta. Colefax and Fowler had some lovely copper-brown and grey-blue contemporary geometric fabrics last time I looked - maybe you could splash out on enough for a few scatter cushions...

I wouldn't rush to paint it blue. Firstly the walls have to work with the flooring if you are keeping it, so good clear pictures of that would help. Secondly, everyone has different levels of sensitivity towards how cold or warm a room is and blue will not feel warm. Finally, look at the 'blue' with the wall heater.

The room seems to divide into two visual zones owing to the 'archway' remains of a supporting wall (?) You need to think about whether you want to accentuate that with a change in colour or diminish it by having one all-over colour. The degree of coldness in a blue will also depend on how pale it is and what else is in the hue. (For instance, if you make it 'duck egg blue' by pulling it towards beige, that will seem 'warmer' than a green-blue or grey-blue).
