Kitchen Refurb - narrow and dark! Ideas please...
Comments (21)Hi Laura, You've received many suggestions and some have been quite good. Particularly useful are the photos above of the French pied a terre with the slim line cabinets on one side. If you need somewhere to eat, you can swap the table and chairs for a bar and stools with slim cabinets either side. And don't worry about losing the panel radiator. Your plumber can install a hydronic plinth heater that connects into your central heating. I think the key to your colour scheme should start with your new cooker. Have you considered beige cabinet doors in high gloss? They would make your range look integrated and help reflect light around the room. Polished black granite (or laminate) worktop will pick up the black trim on the cooker. The arched lower door of the cooker points toward a more traditional or transitional look for a cooker hood (black) or an integrated hood. Beige and black tiles would keep the walls of the working area scrubbable. Look at metro tiles for a high gloss finish or patchwork tiles for some retro designs. Lastly, change over to LED lighting with warm white lamps. Avoid harsh white light overhead, but don't forget worktop lighting. Good luck and have fun....See MoreIdeas for kitchen design, please
Comments (32)Hi. That door doesn't actually seem to let in much light and the current worktop and units aren't bouncing a lot of light so I'm wondering if you need a window once the wall is down? What if you extended the FF run to the end of that run adjacent to the oven and had mirrored backed shelves within a cabinet? (Hope that makes sense!)I think the light units will make a huge difference anyway and you can add a large mirror opposite the patio doors. I agree with the earlier comment re extending the peninsula under the 2nd window. I love banquettes so might lose the sofa in favour of! Here's a link. It's a way off but as you have so many doors I'd paint them all in the wall colour so they blend in. I'd also integrate all the appliances if possible http://www.angelandboho.com/dining-banquettes--chairs-305-c.asp...See Morekitchen furniture/lighting/rug ideas please
Comments (41)It's a tough one, leather may be a safer option. What do you think of this rug with it, might also go nicely with the first rust stool I posted (the stool also comes with black legs)? West elm have a sale on ATM, think it's 20% off if you spend £500 and 30% off > £1000 so might be worth a look, not sure when the sale ends as it's been on a few days...See Morewhere to position recessed LED's in kitchen, ideas please?
Comments (4)If you read over a breakfast bar (sorry, no time to look properly) then you may want to be able to switch the light above that on and off separately to save lighting the whole place. Ensure that recessed lights are spaced according to the ceiling you have after you've put wall cupboards in place (tall ones flush to the ceiling also saves cleaning and you can use a slim stepladder to reach stores etc in the upper shelves) and ensure that lights are central above work surfaces so you aren't working in your own shadow. My electrician refused to believe this would be the case and we had to install a second row of lights to correct his error. I hope this helps. (You'll clock that my lights were not put in well!)...See More- 7 years ago
