kitchen redesign
Looking for some suggestions on how we can update our kitchen and make best use of the space. it's a large area, so we wonder if reducing the kitchen size would allow for a sofa/seating area too. Total first world problem, but we have too much cupboard space!
We find where the island is and the position of fridge and cooker mean we have a lot of milage to get to anything! Although we do love having the island as we use that to prep food. Also love a floor to ceiling cupboard.
The kitchen sink looks out to the front of the house and the dining area to the garden. These photos are from before we moved in and we have since lowered the height of the windows and changed the external door to allow more light in. It's made a huge difference (the windows are now white too).
The house is a old farmhouse. We like a modern/contemporary look with character.
Any layout suggestions for a new kitchen or furniture suggestions would be very appreciated along with how we can add some character. The oven needs to be off the floor as we have a small family and we don't like appliances/sink on an island.

Comments (18)I think I need to either swap the cluster for downlighting pendants or for 3 across the front of the island. The ambient pendants look stunning from afar but actually sitting at the island isn't great. Comments (2)I think you could take the wall down and still fit everything you want into the kitchen, I'd be inclined to put the fridge in the middle where the breakfast bar is now and build the whole section floor to ceiling as a pantry alcove, you could then remove any other wall units and maybe put the stove in front of one window and the sink the other. Or you could decide to do away with units along the window walls and have a double width central bar with a stove at one end (furthest from the dinning room) the sink at the other and have space for bar stools and along one side. If you wanted to see what it would look like and plan it out first I specialise in interior designing using 3D modelling so you could explore what its like before you do anything. Comments (12)I think if you're set on knocking through into Dining room then the cooker has to be moved! Not convinced you'll have much more worktop space tbh - but you'll also have dining table right there to prep food and do some baking with kids. You'll get four 600mm cabinets along the 'new' wall (where the radiator is at the moment) - tall fridge, 600mm drawers, cooker, 600mm drawers - so you'll have space either side of cooker. Plus you'll get another cabinet or two (depending on how big) to the right of the sink. Or you could add a little peninsula there (where the wall is at the moment) to provide more worktop space and undercounter storage - couple of bar stools on the dining room side? Just make sure there is a minimum of 120cm space to walk between each run of cabinets....See More

Thank you all for your advice. It's great to hear hear that there is potential to do a lot with the kitchen.
To answer your questions.
Budget wise, we have no clue how much this would cost. At the moment we are doing an exercise to see how much it would cost to do what we'd like and then if we can afford it. Any indications of cost would be great!I've added some images into my Ideas Book of the sort of style we like. Appliance wise, we would need a double oven, American size fridge freezer, gas hob, dishwasher and space for a microwave. We like to have somewhere for bar stools, somewhere to keep books and maybe shelf storage.
Thanks OnePlan for the suggestion of the online place to sell kitchens. We would definitely be looking to sell it off.
I've very roughly (don't judge!!) a layout that I wondered if it may work. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Ideally we would want to keep the sink, hob etc in the same location to avoid costs of moving electrical points and plumbing.

Just wondering what your thoughts are in putting a half wall in to divide up the space. We had something similar in a previous house and it was great at hiding the kitchen mess when having diner. Would it work in this space? Something like this...
