I would hesitate getting anything in dark wood, because the floor is such a lovely warm colour and I think they may fight each other. Perhaps look at more honey coloured or warm toned wood for the coffee and side tables.

Definitely, yes - rugs would be good, also I think some sort of window dressing would make it look less unfinished - my preference is for curtains, but roman blinds could also work.

Do you actually need/use the brown sofa? A side board or a shelf unit/bookcase may be a better use of that space.

This rug and coffee table would suit very nicely, would give the space some character. These two products are design staples. They fit with any interior, traditional or modern. They provide visual interest, but are design neutrals..All from Ikea:) For £80.

Ah yes the window covering dilemma! I would like a roman blind, guess I would need 3 in the bay but worry it may hang down too low when open. I was thinking of 3 roller blinds so the window was as open as possible as there are views from it. I would like curtains but thought full length ones may be too much for the space. Tricky thing is the window on the opposite side is 3m wide so cannot get any blind to fit that!

Yes a side board would look better in that area but think in short term will stick with it as it is a little place to read. Perhaps a small nest of tables would work there to make it look more finished?

With the mirror, do you mean width-wise going across the length of the brown sofa? I am tempted by the shutters, just wish I could get them in the pistachio colour to add some colour!

What would you put along the back window? The 3ft wide one?. Shutters as well. It is not overlooked and in evening I put on outdoor lights to illuminate rockery but I suppose it still looks unfinished. I have a shelving unit right by the left hand side so it is a tricky one! Also sorry to trouble you again Man about House but what type of rug would you put under the table and chairs?!!!

Thank you Nettie for kind words, it has been a real challenge choosing colours, I have always liked pistachio green as a colour but it seems there is not an awful lot of it around in terms of ornaments, soft furnishings etc I wondered why and of course It made me start to doubt my decision as started to think there had to be a reason why people were not selecting it as a colour scheme!!!!

You stick to your Pistachio. All of our walls indoors are the same colour, but the accessories are all different room to room. In the lounge we had Abraham moon 'pistachio' wool curtains made and a couple of roman blinds, it's mixed in with grey and little mustard. The snug, dining room and kitchen just have the grey and mustard, but it all works for us. Anyhow, the point is, if you like it, and it does look great, then stick to it.

I don't think you necessarily need the shutters and that's one thing i do agree that should remain in off white, it will still look light and airy without being overkill.

If you want more colour then maybe add in another accent like pink / raspberry, just here and there, it'll look good with pistachio.

I went a bit overboard on the pink here, but that's me. ( not the pink, the whole going overboard thing ) .............you'll get the idea.

I still prefer the original pistachio rug but with some pink / raspberry thrown in .

Yes re the mirror I meant follow the length of the sofa.

If you want a rug under the table then it has to match the one in the lounge.

Went round huge Next home store today, tonnes of curtain fabric options in all colours except pistachio!!! Grrrr! Thank you again Man about House, I will persevere and I covet your curtains!!! I think I may well get the original rug you found! Thanks Laura will also look at French Connection, who would have thought! The parquet floors are from 1962 and I am chuffed to bits how they have come up, waited 3.5 years to do them! Angie and celery girl, very good points re rug size, my last Ikea one was definitely in the "not this" category!!

As for brown sofa wish could replace asap. Would you believe someone gave me a beautiful South African wood sideboard and I kept it for a few years until eBaying it for a pittance! I even tried it in the space, see pic, yikes, I thought it was too dominant but maybe not....!

I think a nice big round coffee table would look great on top of a neutral or jute rug. Also you could put a big fake plant in the corner. I love your pistachio colours. I'd also add a bamboo blind framed with white linen curtains.

Just my standard advice: pull the sofas inwards away from the wall by some 30 cm or so. It will improve the homeliness.
