Carpet, coffee table and cushions advice

Hey Houzz community!

So neither this rug nor the red couch are going anywhere, but I am terrified to mix and match :(

Help please!

1) Coffee table - We're pretty sure that we don't want a rectangular one, but are there guidelines on what shape would work with a chunky corner chaise like this one? Should we stick to a square-ish one, or would a round one work (or would that be strange because there's a big, round skeleton clock close by, see second photo)? Since majority of the stuff we have at home is oak, should we stick to that or opt for a glass-topped one? What shape or style would work?

(Pardon the clutter and the misplaced art---all temporary. Still shifting a few boxes around! First photo is more representative... second one looks dark for some reason)

2) Cushions - I suppose I should place a few blue/cream cushions on the couch to tie it together with the rug... but what patterns should I use? As it is now, those scatters are too plain and boring for my taste!

I had a gander online and found some options... would any of these work?

If I do opt for printed blue cushions, should the cream one be plain?

Lastly, does anyone know of good leads on where to find nice abstract wall art to match (I'm a newbie), around London? Something to save up for in the future?

What happened to the big red rug?

The big red rug had to go (we still don't know where to sell it), it ended up taking up the entire space, covering the wooden floor. The husband was heartbroken--it was from his flat as a bachelor, but we couldn't make it work. Yay! Would love to take you up on that offer because we are quite overwhelmed and don't quite know where to start!

as you can see through to the dining room I'd probably pick up the turquoise myself. In terms of colours that go with turquoise and lime you could try grey, yellow or navy. If you want something bolder fushcia can also work (as seen on the book on your table!). The walls look as if they're pale grey so maybe pick up a little more? I thought all the art was like that deliberately, I quite like art leant on walls! Personally I prefer picture frames matching but I do like your black framed art that's hung on the wall with the White framed one on the sideboard. Your art looks modern so personally would avoid wood. if you're in agreement re furniture layout I'd rearrange that slightly and then hang your art so it can be centred behind the sofa for example

I agree. A close match to the sofa or very slightly darker to ground it, and you'll have a neutral starting point for many years to come. Not so sure about adding a rug on top of carpet; perhaps you could do something creative with a coffee table that uses the colours from the curtains, and obviously cushions and throws too?

I think your table is too small, it just doesn't fit right. If you sit on the sofa with a cuppa can you comfortably put down the hot cup on the table without having to struggle? I would rearrange the room slightly. Have the sofas opposite each other. The one along the window wall stays where it is and the other one faces it, with coffee table in the middle. The TV/unit then goes to the wall opposite the fireplace. I think that would then make the fireplace the main feature of the room. At the moment the coffee table stands out as the feature, which it shouldnt. Try it? You never know! Lovely colours by the way, I just like thinking of rearranging to improve what you have!

I'm not sure about the Ikea one due to the black frame although I have seen this sprayed in a gold/brass finish which looked good. The middle one is my favourite. As the sideboard and chest are boxy a couple of round tables would also look good, there are loads around including the "interlocking" ones.

Love your first three cushion choices. I'd look for a large buttoned foot stool/coffee table. Perhaps leather
