Ground floor layout help needed

Hi all,

We’ve been in our current house a couple of years now but as time ticks on we are getting more and more dissatisfied with our ground floor layout!

Our lounge doesn’t feel that cosy, there is only one wall (the wall between lounge and dining room) to put 1 sofa due to constraints of doorways, radiator/window combo and the window seat. Our dining room is a dining/playroom that doesn’t work as either and a big chunk is essentially a walk way through to the kitchen. The kitchen feels very isolated, doesn’t help that it was a garage conversion 15 years ago and not insulated that well so gets colder than the rest of the house. The space at the front of the kitchen overlooking the porch isn’t big enough for a table for 6 (or ideally 8) which is what we need, so table has to be in the dining room. The utility is again just a walkway and has to be on show. I sound like I hate my house which I don’t really, I just don’t love it.

We’ve had many discussions about how we could change it, including knocking down the wall between dining and kitchen but dont feel that would help as it would effectively be another big walkway space as it is too small a gap for any island or table so we’d actually lose space doing that as other side of wall in kitchen is a bank of units. I’ve added the room sizes in metres to the floor plan here.

Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do to improve?? I would love more open plan space, a more sociable kitchen space, is that ever going to be possible??
