I’m a fan of picture windows and think it’s a great idea. Obviously, just be aware of any structural work involved being close to the bifold. It would look amazing, in my opinion.

Difficult one. Can you see the window better from either position when you enter the room or from a hallway? Also diff to tell without seeing the rest of the room. That would give a better idea of what to centralise it to. With what I can see, I would go closer to the counter so that you can see out if it when working in the kitchen. It also appears better centred to the other windows. More info would help though.

Thank you for responding, I really value your input. You can see the garden better from the hallway when the window is towards the bifolds and that is what I want to achieve, at the moment you walk in and see wall. I include a picture of the architects drawings of the back of the house - there is too much wall and the bifolds aren't positioned centrally - there is nothing I can do about this now. I agree that the picture window would look better externally if it were centralised between the bifolds and the current kitchen window but I think it looks odd having the kitchen units encroaching into the wall on the right of the window. Am I over-worrying - do you see that? Maybe I have to go with a wider picture window and move the kitchen units? It may well come down to cost, because as you have pointed out - we'll need structural work. I'd rather do nothing than get it wrong.

Personally, I would say that the least pressing concern is what it would look like from the back garden looking towards the house. I suspect that you will spend 95%+ time indoors and will really appreciate the view from the hall in to the garden several times a day. The window also centralises between the kitchen units and bifolds so has a natural centre point here. Also, look at the structural engineer’s drawings. You should get an idea of where the beam across the bifolds goes to. ‘Anything’ is possible structurally but the cost may vary.

The only person who will probably notice these things is you - trust me I’ve been there . You have a lovely space and it will look great wherever a picture window goes. I really wouldn’t go moving kitchen units to centralise things. The only reason I have noticed these things is because of the question you asked but would admire a picture window wherever you put it. You’re right, it encroaches on the kitchen units. Defo towards the bifolds if it isn’t too expensive structurally.
