Thanks for your reply. Yes, they are from the light shade. We don’t tend to have the big light on much tbh. The current curtains are left over from my old decor, as I can’t seem to make a decision on what colour to have. I was thinking plain but either mustard or navy blue? I should have mentioned, the white chair will be going in my bedroom and I need some sort of storage for shoes the blue Ikea bag under the photos will be moved ASAP

That is such a lovely room. The sofa and cushion arrangements are so stylish and the fireplace wall is beautifully done. Love the chunky shelves. Those curtains are so wrong, but you know that, don’t you? I think navy or grey plain ones would go much better, as has already been suggested. Do you know I need some decent shoe storage solutions for downstairs and I think those Ikea ones look ideal!

Thank you. I did get a lot of help from this wonderful community. The curtains are from my old colour scheme. I couldn’t find any long enough today when I went shopping so may have order online.

Other than the curtains and lack of shoe storage, it’s whats on the shelves that’s bothering me. I keep moving things around but can’t seem to get it to look just right

Hi Lou, accessories are a very personal thing, but looking at yours some of it is samey, that is the same size, the same colour etc. I think put a tall thing next to a couple of smaller items, then something of a different shape. Below is my favourite shelf in my kitchen. Some things were gifts, others from charity shops and a trailing plant is always good. Try to overlap things a bit. Books are always good, again look it charity shops. The second pic gives a guide of how to do it. There is no right or wrong way to accessorise - if you like the items then it’s always right.

Try charity shops, they have fantastic vases, books, glasses and crockery. The Range is also so good and so reasonable!

Thanks for that forzaitalic, id been trying to keep it symmetrical so I will have another rejiggle with that in mind. Thank you Alix, I did have curtains over the door before but took them down when I redecorated as some other users suggested it would open up the room. I do prefer It without them now, I was hesitant at first, and there is no draft at all.

What do people think about the wall over the Sofa? My friend suggested some abstract art like this...

I've just looked at your old post, wow the room has changed! Re the sofa wall, I would add scandi style art with rounded shapes just to break up the lines of the rug. I wouldn't go for curtains with the radiator personally (which I'd paint in the wall colour) but Roman blinds, I think a horizontal stripe would help with the ceiling height. I'd bring the chair in a little from the door so it doesn't visually look as if it's blocking it. A personal thing but not keen on throws over the back of chairs/sofas, just the arms. I do like your navy throw but wonder if a tasselled one would look good? Scarves are a cheaper option and normally a much better fit. Unless the table is left empty for practical purposes I might add accessories or even just a vase of stems. The only thing I'm less keen on is the gallery wall area, it seems a bit busy as you've already got the frames. I might just go for the hemnes shoe cabinet and add a large plant and then a small one in your brass pot. I think just adding books and plants will help with the accessories

I’ve tried a few different curtains (see pics below) but I’m not keen on any. I have ordered some ochre ones and navy ones which should arrive Monday. I really don’t like the long ones at all, and I’m not keen on blinds in the living room.

I will paint the radiator this weekend, I keep meaning to do it lol.

i will move the chair forward, I have a tasseled throw so I will try that on the chair.

I have books on the far shelves and bought a large plant (which i plan on getting a wicker basket for) to put on the floor somewhere.

I love the photo shop of the sofa area, will start looking for art work I like once I’ve sorted the curtains

I know you've said you are not sure about blinds but I think a white/soft grey wood venetian blind would look good with some light weight linen/muslin dress curtains to soften it.

Hi Lou. What it is you don't like about blinds for this room? I know you need to change the curtains and add art but what don't you actually like? Is it just the shelves? I've added tips for creating a vignette which may help. I know some may think it's naff and not the correct way to display books but stacking some horizonally with an object on top can also look effective.

are the bottles decorative or alcohol, I can't quite see? If the latter you could make put them on a tray and add a decanter

Removed a bit of clutter and added a plant

Not got a vase so tried a candle holder

it just doesn’t feel finished, I’m sure I’ll love it once the art work is up though. I really like the shelves to the right so I will keep my eye out for more things to add to the left side, as I think they look better fuller.

I feel its softer and more ‘homely’ looking with Curtains.

The bottles are empty with fairy lights in them. I have moved them up to the 2nd shelf and prefer them there. Thanks for all your ideas, it’s really helping me bring the room together and I’m much happier with it now. I love this group, everyone is so helpful :)

Thank you mcpeeple. Have you seen my most recent photos of the shelves? I do feel they’ve improved haha. The large plant is for the floor but have put it there until I get a nice pot or basket to put it in. I like the idea of adding pictures behind the items I already have, will have a play about tomorrow as I have so many bits in other rooms. I do love hanging plants so will have a look for some. Will post yet more pics tomorrow, thanks again to you all
