Bathroom Layout Ideas

Interested in a house but the bathroom is awful. We'd be ripping it right out to start fresh and also knocking the window back through (although not sure on cost!)

Two options.

Either a large 'walk in' shower/ enclosure along the back wall with a rainfall shower head to the left.

Or

The same concept but adding in a soaking bath (loss omnitub) to the right of the shower enclosure.

The sink would stay roughly where it is, single or double vanity?

The toilet would ideally be moved further to the right and the current shower cubicle turned into extra storage (the boiler is housed in a cupboard next to this in the corner)

And also a heated towel rail somewhere.
Can anyone help me visualise this concept or advise of pros and cons please?

Or any better ideas would also be welcome. We definitely don't want a shower over bath as we've had that for years.

People do weird things, but good news on the gap being able to be used.

This seems like a good sized space for everything you want. Your next step is to decide on a budget and then speak to a bathroom specialist to check the budget is sufficient for your plans.
A designer will help you visualise your plans- there will be free designers at kitchen suppliers and there are planners that sell only design.

It's a good idea to keep both the shower and the bath, like Jonathan already mentioned, there's plenty of space. This is just a quick sketch for one possible layout, that could work with minimal renovation works. We always suggest our clients to leave to toilet where it is, because it's usually a hassle to move it around. So we would install a shower like you had in mind, along the back wall. And then rip out the existing shower and cupboard and fit a freestanding bath instead. The washbasin would stay where it is. And there is probably space for a tall towel heater on the right hand side from the door.

Hey it may be a tight squeeze but the door I made so that it opens the other way rather than inwards unless you needed it going into the this room? the windows however please ignore the big one at the back, I was unsure how big the windows were but the layout is to give you more of an idea mainly! you could add also a shower rod and curtain there too and storage are both top and bottom, under sink for loo rolls or some space around shelving of mirror. colours could be changed if you wish but was to give you an idea of what it would look like within a 2x2m bathroom :) hope this helps!

Hi Faye, this is an interesting one, than you for posting! If the house was mine, I would investigate to see whether the walls can be moved. If this could be an option I would think of extending the left bathroom wall so I could move the bathroom where your kitchen currently is, so I could have a bigger kitchen (inclusive of utility room). i this way the bathroom will be accessible from the corridor. please let me know if this makes sense! I don’t think the current plan would work well. The gap between shower & bath is too small to be useful & will just be awkward to clean. Plus the shower enclosure stocked out in the way of the sink. I’d put the shower on the opposite side where the toilet is now. Rotate the bath 90 degrees so that it’s along the wall & go for a short bath so you can put the toilet on the same wall.

Design Angels layout works really well, you can move the w/c down that shouldn't be to much hassle its moving it to other walls that would be a problem. A large shower at the back works well if you wanted to keep storage where you already have it. If you have rough dimensions id be happy to have a look at it for you.

It’s a good size bathroom! You would be able to fit it all in... actually, if you loose the cupboard, the double washbasin for a single one and the boxing at the end of the bath, you would have even more room for a big shower etc...
If it’s your main bathroom, for me the big issue is the lack of natural light! It is pretty claustrophobic right now! The rest is cosmetic and wouldn’t scare me at all! Opening up the window would be my priority here... Good luck on finding your new home!

Thank you to you all so far for your suggestions and advice. As you can probably tell I'm new to all this!

Re the toilet, that is a valid point and any saving on hassle like that is definitely a plus.

We were torn between just not having a bath but it makes good sense to use the current shower plumbing for a bath there. The only limitation we have is space for that area as the boiler is housed next to the current cubicle. Plus I love the idea of an Omnitub - despite the price.

And yes regarding natural light! previous owner blocked up the window for some very bizarre reason, as it's not overlooked. Is that a costly process getting it out right?

The suspended ceiling (yuk) would also hopefully be replaced by spotlights.

Cece, happy to hear you like the new layout. Like you have already noticed, it would be the most efficient-budget wise. As for the boiler, our clients usually move it up into the loft, which is a bit more expensive solution but you can also box it in behind the new shower, where the current low stud wall is. Good luck with everything!

I'm always curious as to how you clean the area's behind and below a freestanding bath situated so close to the walls. I'm already imagining mould and spiders at a minimum!

Love to know what's at the end of the bath, i'm guessing whatever those two tiled and panelled objects are, they may well be covering something structural like stairs, or similar, so they may not be movable.

I think the important fact is that there is plenty of space to play with. I kind of like the tiles, strangely, though obvs there are far too many of them! Is it in proportion to the other room sizes? A spacious house is always a good start.

Man About The House - at the end of the bath on the left it's some weird boxed in job., Mostly hollow underneath.

The vendor pulled a panel off with no effort and showed us. He said "I don't know why the owner before did that"...
