oak or painted kitchen?

We make hand made bespoke kitchens. Do you prefer painted, oak kitchen or a combination of both? Really interested to know what you think!

Those are some amazing kitchens, hard to chose just one, but there's something about the Vale of Clwyd kitchen that I really like. It's very calm.

Personally I think all oak is a dated look but I love to see just a few oak touches in a painted kitchen. Perhaps a chalky white, or a contemporary neutral with oak touches such as drawer boxes, pantry inserts, the inside of LED lit glass cabinets, pull out chopping boards and serving trays, inside of open shelf space units or maybe a statement canopy around the range.
Although the look/colour has to be commercial I think any kitchen is elevated with thicker end panels, feature plinth, sophisticated pantry cabinets, dresser cabinets with fold back doors, having the right height cabinets to suit the architecture, integrated lighting, attractive end of island display options, and an attention to detail so that panels on cabinet doors all line thought.

Really depends on how long you are planning to live with this kitchen for as to how much effort you put in. How good are the cabinet, could you replace the doors within your budget rather than paint them? If you do paint them Elephant Breath F&B paint or Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Fired Earth Oak Apple type colour for the cupboards so the copper tones in the flooring are not fighting with the wood tones? Not sure its possible but see if you can find a tiler to cut out the twee tiles and replace with someone else less twee that fits. I'd def replace the worktops with something more neutral. You've got a lot going on in the colour/texture of the floor and the design of the cabinets so I think you need to calm it down a bit.

Claudia Raperport - Your kitchen looks really nice. Where did you get your floor from? honeypoppet - Very good point about the tiles. We have some green samples coming this week. If we don't love them I think we will play it a bit more safe with white/grey tiles. Man About The House - The DIY & Odd Job Handyman - Those tiles look really nice. I'm not sure. The images above show that even if the worktop and floor are similar tonally you can drastically alter a space with dark/light paint and wall tiles. Generally I think a light to medium toned floor is a good idea (like the polished concrete ones above). I have pale oak, grey floor and a pale worktop in my kitchen but very dark tiles.

In my opinion it is the saturation level of the paint that is the problem. The beauty of your kitchen is the natural flooring and the wooden worktops, it looks earthy. This is swamped by the blue paint, it just looks wrong. Without seeing the cupboard door colours close up it is tricky but I would suggest looking for something a bit darker than the cupboards but with the same hue. If you want a strong contrasting wall a deep olive green would work as it would balance the wood and the purpley greys.
