Kitchen inspiration - painting oak cupboards

Just moved so can't afford to rip out kitchen.

I was thinking of painting the units, removing the current odd shape table and at a stretch, perhaps replacing work tops.

But I'm not sure what colour to paint the units so it will go with the tiled floor (browny / orange / light terracota style tiles) or the twee country wall tiles?

Could I replace the table with a rectangular breakfast bar instead?

Any and all inspiration welcomed as I'm a bit overwhelmed.

I think the floor tiles will be fine once you have changed other things. They aren't that offensive.

I would definitely paint the units and get new handles. I would also re tile on the wall....if a new kitchen is years off I think it will make a massive difference that you can easily live with.

It won't be a modern style kitchen if that's your ultimate aim but just work with what's there, keep it more homely/eclectic.

You can special floor paint,or put a Lino on top of the floor.

and there is a paint for tiles that can mask those patterns .

and for inspiration ,if you are in the UK ,try to ask for howdens Kitchens catalogue it is amazing and I think that a grey worktop or a wooden worktop will work

Really depends on how long you are planning to live with this kitchen for as to how much effort you put in. How good are the cabinet, could you replace the doors within your budget rather than paint them? If you do paint them Elephant Breath F&B paint or Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Fired Earth Oak Apple type colour for the cupboards so the copper tones in the flooring are not fighting with the wood tones?

Not sure its possible but see if you can find a tiler to cut out the twee tiles and replace with someone else less twee that fits. I'd def replace the worktops with something more neutral.

You've got a lot going on in the colour/texture of the floor and the design of the cabinets so I think you need to calm it down a bit.

The only way you will know costs is to have a few quotes from painters. My friend had her kitchen cupboards repainted from a golden wood to palest cream and it looks fantastic. This was several years ago. Such a professional job and worthwhile.

I would try some different neutrals such as Little Greene 'Slaked Lime Dark' or Farrow and Ball 'Light Grey17'. It a lovely bright space and the floor is very warm and quite strong so I would go for a warm stoney neutral that complements the floor and the range. If the paint is more obviously blue of green it will make the floor look even stronger. Little Greene does oil based so I would use that over water based. Thanks - will have a look for those paint colours. Kitchen cabinets are in excellent condition and I wouldn't be planning on moving for a while but just need some quick fixes so I can continue to live it ;)

Hi. Do you need all the ŵall units? I would paint the base units a warm grey or greige/taupe colour. Personally I'd keep the worktop for now hence the warm grey and spend the money on new tiles. Flooring I agree I'd go for a wood effect vinyl which is really cheap to buy and have laid. Use sage green as an accent colour and a warm white for the ŵalls. If you do keep all or some of the ŵall units I'd do them in the same white so they blend into the ŵalls. If a new kitchen is a long way off then consider changing the handles now whilst you're painting.

I think I'm going to have to live with the floor as it's underfloor heating and I fear taking up the tiles would be a massive job.

i do like the idea of grey / griege for the units though.

Any suggestions about what colour counter tops should be if I painted cupboards light grey / griege and kept the floor as is?

Also I would price up a worktop if you can stretch to it because that needs to be done before any wall tiling. Square edged laminate at howdens is a good choice.

I would try to get an inexpensive pale laminate replacement worktop, paint the tiles a soft white and a similar nearly white for the wall cabinets. I would paint the base units and the tall cabinets a mid grey or a blue. Then I would paint the walls the greige colour you were thinking. Personally I would get a wood table- either something ornate and paint it white- or something modern in a grey toned wood.
