Hi, sorry no ideas for grey shades but wondered if you had thought of using feature wallpaper to add colour to the area as it seems to have no natural light coming through (same as mine). Maybe then the colour choice for the other walls would be easier to decide on?

Try F&B Clunch, it's a very pale creamy grey with the merest hint of a beige to stop it being cold.

It looks darker than you imagined because it's surrounded by white, that's why paint chips look dark then you paint them on and it looks pale. Paint is the colour it is, light changes it. What colour is the handrail?

Hi Martin,

Hallways and stairwells are dark rooms while they have little or no day light. Any colour you choose will look darker.

We advise our clients to install more lights and bright eco bulbs. Another solution would be using light reflecting paint.

All white would be the best option to brighter up those rooms, but it may become boring if there's nothing else in those rooms. Try to make a statement with a feature wall in another colour, or wallpaper, or a picture wall where you print and hang your best memories. Adding art would be option too.

Recommending off whites try Wevet from F&B.

Paint it bronze, a third of the wall and the ceiling. Just an idea.

What style is your house, your personality?

A hallway is nice to make a statement in, quirky. Because you don't have to sit in it all day, you can add some fun. Black doors, white trim. Yellow walls, green ceiling. ;)

Thanks all. Some good suggestions. Given how indecisive we are on paint, i'm not sure we'd ever agree on a wallpaper. Clunch is slightly too beige for us. Looking back at that picture it doesn't look too bad and it does seem it's the edges where it meets the white paint that makes it look beige. Did look at Wevet but does look like it might be slightly creamy so didn't get a tester. After getting about 10 samples we're currently down to White Mist and Grey Steel 4 which was recommended in another thread. White Mist is very subtle and will probably mark easily where as Grey Steel is darker and has more depth

Wevet is blue not creamy. Clunch is yellowish.

I think the colour on the top left that you're struggling to read is white mist. That is what I have throughout mine. Very subtle and the 'cleanest' pale grey I found (and I tested A LOT!!)

Thanks for everyone's input. Went through more testers than I can remember and a 5L tin spilling all over my car. In the end we settled on grey steel 4 in the hallway. That was until we started painting blackened in the living room and decided we should have the same colour throughout :S

Anyway we never found the answer to the grey conundrum and through searching it seems a lot of people have had the same issue. Grey Steel 4 and Blackened both appear more light blue than grey to my eyes. Some colours that people insisted were a true grey, were not once we tested. I guess light plays a huge part. Laura Ashley was the only brand I didn't try

Nevertheless both colours are nice and blackened is really growing on me. The ammonite in the opening picture might have been fine on reflection, the contrast at the edges with the white paint made it look dark and greige, a perception that would change once the whole wall was done

The grey and white railings are beautiful. I feel maybe it's a little cold and some colour could warm it up a bit.

Maybe a bit of artwork could do the trick. I've used this website a number of times to add a splash of colour to my bedroom walls and i'm pleased with the result.
