Comments (30)A brick wall talking!!!! This has made me chuckle!!! Margo, I saw that Tom had commented after me asking what the home owners did in the end!!! I thought, at first, ' hang on a minute! They have hardly had time to make a cup of coffee and read their Houzz thread!' Then it suddenly dawned on me and I scrolled back to see that this was in fact a two year old thread and I had put such a comprehensive reply on it.... as if my life depended on it! Never mind! Maybe the owner will revisit and post an after pic one day soon!...See MoreAnyone got any good ideas for making an ex council house look cool?
Comments (61)I live in the Scottish Borders and three years ago there was a government incentive to externally insulate the houses. Due to the construction of the houses (poured concrete they couldn’t have cavity wall insulation ) . The difference to the heating bills is unbelievable but the look of the house is fabulous as there was new render put on new window sills and down pipes .i agree with the comment that just doing one house would stand out like a sore thumb but it just takes one to start the ball rolling . Maybe speak to your neighbours and they may want to do the same . All the houses in my street had the cladding and it has transformed the look of the street . I have since revamped my lounge and kitchen. There was nothing wrong with the kitchen cupboards so they where painted ,new work tops and sink . I did have a breakfast bar that took up a lot of room which I have replaced with a glass table . My next project is my bedroom which is getting refitted with new wardrobes and draws . Ex local authority houses are well built and have big rooms , they are worth buying as you can do so much with them ,I have bigger cupboards than the rooms that are in some new builds . This is my kitchen, it is so much lighter and more space . The back board is the same as the work top , so no tiles to grout ....See MoreLooking for a light dusky grey blue paint in UK
Comments (1)Hello Claire - Blackened by Farrow and Ball is very light, with a hint of blue grey. It has beautiful tones. You mention that the light isn't great - is it north facing by any chance? If so, you may want to be careful with using blue as it can be very cold in north facing light. Any other direction and go for it......See MoreRoom looking too grey?
Comments (90)I personally prefer that light and table option, the light adds a lot of warmth with the table and I prefer the design which sits well with the art although both are lovely. Have you looked at the mad men rug in concrete jungle (which has brown tones on my screen!)? The hydrangea might also be nice in blush? There are lots of brass ornaments around ATM for the table or bookcase too...See MoreAnna Smith
