Everything you suggest sounds nice Minnie, your home must be lovely! Tbh the area where the sofa is going is not very deep so we may well end up with banquette style seating as I do think they look lovely. Then maybe I could get a small round table for coffee's etc....aahh the lampshade! It's been a pain in the butt! I'm still waiting for the Laura Ashley sample's, you would not believe how many shades of duck egg there are! They're so expensive too! :)

Thanks for the advice @Juliet Docherty & @sandrasal I haven't bought the sofa yet but think this is the style I'd like. The room has 2 large windows so gets a fair bit of natural light in. Not as much as @sandrasal but think its sufficient to call it a well lit room. I think an accent wall works well if it has an obvious purpose. For example if there is a very deep recess or a wall of collectables that would be set off with a deep colour, or best of all a dark wall to help to disguise a large ugly black TV (they're not pretty are they)?

You don’t say for which room, but Pinks, greens and greys would go well.
