Art deco fireplaces - remove or keep?

We have recently moved into an Edwardian property (1911) with many original features. However, it seems at some point 2 of the original fireplaces were replaced with art deco style ones.
We are renovating and keen to keep the period features but have started to dislike these fireplaces and as they are not original, wonder if we should remove?
Does anyone have any thoughts? Or if we are to keep, is there anyway of making them look nicer?
Thanks!
