Help choosing a sofa for kitchen.

Thinking of getting a new sofa for the kitchen to sit in front of a navy wall (LG Woad). Floor is slate grey and units are pale cream. I’ve tried and tried to upload photos and getting nowhere. Just buffers. I’ve seen a velvet emerald green sofa which is gorgeous, it also comes in mid grey velvet and finally a plain non velvet charcoal. What do you think will sit best in front of that navy wall? Any suggestions?

ebay do have some bargain "designer" cushions :)

if the sofa isn't comfy I was just playing around with your existing one but not sure what you think. If you did try the bookcase I think a lamp would work the other side. The cushion was also a bit more of a rusty colour before I photoshopped it :)

Only an idea anyway if the sofa isn't comfy!

Have you got a good extractor ? If you only have a recycle fan - I’d suggest go for a wipeable sofa feather than fabric .

Hi Caro, I have attached two images of wall paper that I think you compliment your kitchen. The green and blues in these wallpapers would harmonise with the existing titles and highlight the height of the room. From your ideas book it seems you like repeat patterns, both of these styles suggest a 60s feel whilst remaining contemporary. As you can see in the second photograph, the pattern and colours sit very well with the dark shiny worktop, similar to the one you mention putting in at a later date. I would choose something very close to that deep red/rust/plum (can't quite work out what it is) in the granite. It looks as if that colour is also in the tea towel on the right (hanging on the handle in front of the oven). Everything else is so light I think the room would take it well and it would give it wow factor. You need a warm colour, as someone else has said, to tone with the cream of the cabinets and the granite.

The colour of the wall paint will depend on the amount and direction of the sunlight and will change when the artificial light is on and even on a different wall of the same room. I’d go for a cooler greyer tones. However be aware some greys can look greener with different lighting. Choose some samples, paint them on a large piece of paper and hang them in different walls of the room, look at them during the day and evening. You might find out that you like whites and greys with yellow and red undertones more. The blue pieces are very nice and will go very well with your light brown sofa It’s a very nice rug. I like the Middle Eastern style. I agree with OnePlan but would add that if you regularly have your carpet cleaned they can also clean your soft furnishings.
My carpet guy also cleans the oven..... bonus!

Like that idea Jonathan, thank you. OnePlan I love the look of leather, but not the stickiness during hot weather. Worn tan leather though is a look that I love..........

Here are a few options of sofas with a dark blue wall.]These days most covers are removable and you can also get man-made velvet that is wipable.

There are lots of options out there concerning different fabrics that are durable and family-friendly.

Hi Sonia, I was struggling to post before so tried photos on their own! I've just seen that you swapped the table :)

I think you can make the other sofa work but if you want a new one I would consider the Ikea ektorp which has washable covers and works with a modern country style. I like the first image, I think all of the fabrics are harlequin, I've also found a cushion version of the blind on eBay but it won't let me load the image..

As it's a reading corner have you considered swapping the sideboard and a bookcase? The last 2 images are just showing a bookshelf behind and to the side of a sofa rather than style. Ikea also do a light beige version of the sofa which looks to have a red undertone, it would be good to know what the cream units look like. You could also consider that with navy and dirty pink cushions but that might mean painting the pale blue walls an off white but the "red" undertones would flow through from the living room

Thank you Minnie. I’ve had a nightmare with uploading photos too. Sometimes when I hit submit everything disappears! . Very annoying! Some great ideas as always. The table/sofa swop is really working and we are eating at the table every day whilst watching reruns of Garden Rescue of Escape to the Country, or the dreaded news........:-( and the sofa in the kitchen is a triumph. Who knew so many birds visited the bird feeders, just lovely. i‘ve actually ordered a budget mid grey sofa which is coming on Thursday, but of course if it’s not comfy it will be going back! I’ll try and upload photos of the kitchen units which are at the other end of the room.

I was away last week so didn't realise it was a common issue, it's bad enough waiting for photos to load let alone posts disappearing :(

I'm glad it's worked out so well and not only did you get a change past your husband but a new sofa :) It looks a lovely style so fingers crossed it's comfy!

I think it’s easier to post photos of a lower ‘grade’. What I’ve done successfully in the past is take a screenshot of the photo, crop it and then post the screenshot.

E D its all on a previous post where I ask would I be mad to get rid of my dining table etc. In the end I swopped the dining table with a sofa and it’s really working so much better for us. The only reason I’m getting a new sofa (only a cheapie) is the swopped one is very traditional and I’m not sure it works in the kitchen. Bought online so we‘ll see what we think when it gets here! This is current sofa with the navy wall.

Ya, I remember you were contemplating to rid of your table. Good it worked out.

I remember someone (colourhappy or even you?) here posting a photo of a bold-ish dark-ish green sofa against a dark blue wall. Looked great.

You could also perhaps keep your current sofa and use a large (green?) throw to completely cover.

I loved the emerald green but I felt it was more suited to a cosy, rather plush sitting room than a kitchen, but it would look stunning against the navy. E D I’m not keen on large throws over a sofa. They look a bit too “bed for the dog” for my liking! We‘ll see what the grey one looks like. It is velvet so will be jolly cosy but fingers crossed it is comfy! :-)

@minnie101 dragonfly cushion covers purchased and flying in shortly. Floor lamp arriving soon too. I always find the cushion thing confusing, so thank you. Love having a personal home designer :-D

Yes E D a plant will look great, thank you. Maybe a succulent or cactus as it’s a sunny warm room. But where can I put my printer? Don’t have the luxury of an office and don’t forget my house is tiny........I’ll have a think :-))

I don't use it loads but of course it is so useful and it scans and photocopies too. I’m thinking maybe it could go in one of the bedrooms.........

Update: Lamp, cushions and plant in place. Printer stayed where it was simply because no space anywhere else, but I’ve closed it up so it’s not so obvious, I hope! Thanks again for all your advice.
