Extending dining table (Scandi)

Hello everyone, I am looking to upgrade our dining table and chairs and would love to hear your thoughts. I love Scandi design and the theme across the house is white, oak and grey. The distance between the sofa and the wall (with clock) is 3m and the width of the room is 4.3m. The table needs to sit 6 people and extend to 8 (or 10). I suppose the only material that would not work is glass as we have two small children. The layout of the room is open plan, the cabinets in the lounge our glossy white with oak too and the kitchen is glossy light grey.. If you have an idea, please share brand / website. Thank you!

This one from made.com is lovely but prob best not recommending chairs without knowing your budget. And are you looking at 8 new chairs? Or just 6 and use two of the old ones for bigger gatherings?

Funnily enough, we have been thinking about making the landing into a reading area with low book shelves when we conceptualized our little extension slightly over a year ago. As we had imagined, the area is flooded with light for most hours of the day. I had therefore originally intended to focus on getting some suggestions for the white wall but thought the better of it and threw the question wider so that we may get a schematic idea for the area rather than something too specific which might not gel together. So thanks everyone for your great suggestions. Any thoughts about canvas/photograph(s) arrangement on the white wall would be greatly appreciated. p.s. love the handcrafted colour cubes at the Lines of Pinner but they will have to go with the rest of the colour scheme should we decide to go down that route.

You have lots of space. I'd put the utility room in like in the third picture. And then the kitchen in like the second picture (so it backs onto utility). Then you can figure out where you'd put the dining table and seating area with the space that is left. Having lots of circulation space is going to give it a luxurious feel - nothing worse than everything crammed in together and no room to breathe. But if you can get everything in from just that small corner extension, then it would certainly be a lot cheaper and easier! If you need 1m to make it work, I think I'd just do the full 2m that you've for permission for - then it'll be really more than you need but you will appreciate it.

Good Morning Clare, Ensuring less contrast from floor to floor will create more flow and make the house feel larger. So the more rooms that can be made to match this floor the better. Timber is great in the lounge with a large rug. The dark stripy carpet is not likely to be the best option, however it may not clash. It would divide the rooms. Looking at the mood board, I see light timber finish floors as well as white painted floors. This finish is softer and easier to keep looking clean. You can get the floor sanded and treated with a white finish for this which shows the timber through. For example, a white wax. Experts in this field will help advise e.g. joiners, flooring experts, carpentry experts. To conclude, I recommend exposing the floorboards in as many rooms as you can and looking into a lightening white wash/oil/ wax for the boards. Thank you for sharing, Ellen Utley Interior Designer

Our current chairs are from made.com and the round table from ikea, both all purchased as a temporary solution while we figure out our needs and find the right design. My budget is quite wide subject to the products being the perfect fit :) I really like Carl Hansen products but the downside with their tables is that the extension leaves need to be stored separately. We are open to buying new chairs and complementing them with the ones we have.

Oh definitely a faff storing extending leaves separately.

There are lots of Houzzers on here who are better at finding great furniture than I am but I'll keep looking as well! Best of luck.
