Hello, thanks all for the early advice - very much appreciated. The attached pic shows where downstairs services are. The ground floor extension which contains the kitchen stretches across the back of the house and I had originally planned to extend out over this to make bed 3 and/or 4 larger and allow inclusion of an ensuite. Unfortunately we've overspent on the downstairs, hence I'm wondering whether it's possible to squeeze an ensuite into the existing layout. The house is brick construction, circa 1970 and is detached although the utility room is a lean to extension which joins the neighbouring property. I believe that the structural walls upstairs are those bordering the landing only - all room dividers could be moved. Low pitch on the roof so no chance of extending upwards. His preferred layout looks like they forgot to put a toilet in, and to squeeze one in afterwards. We asked the builder to put 2 basins in our new build ensuite. Complete waste of space. There might be room for 2 basins, but there isn't room for 2 people! We have just redone the ensuite with a single basin and the room looks so much bigger

could you switch the bath and shower round? not a huge deal if you can't...I'm just thinking that opening a door and have a glass shower screen right next to you could make the room feel small? whereas a bath sat there could create a more open feel? I personally would say keep it all tiled- paint can often peel in a bathroom so it's easier to keep it tiled and I would say just have one big mirror above the toilet and sink because that's going to give the room that seamless contemporary feel which you are after hope that helps 😁

Help! We're planning an extension and re-jigger the layout of our very narrow house. The house is a typical narrow old victorian terrace in London. Currently the full bathroom is on the ground floor, in the back of the ground floor. And there's an ensuite shower in the loft. With the extension, we're thinking of removing the full bath from the ground floor, changing the shower in the loft into a shower/bath and adding a shower to the 1st floor. Due to the narrowness of the house, it's difficult to put a full bath without compromising the rooms. But I really dislike having the full bath on the ground floor in favor of a larger kitchen / dining area. Thoughts on: Whether its weird to have a full bath in the loft and a shower-only room on the 1st floor? Would this be an issue with kids? (we don't have any but plan to) Fitting a shower/bath in the loft feels changing with the slanted roof. My husband is tall so finding the right spot for the toilet is a bit challenging. Ideas would be welcome here! Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance! Photo shows the proposed changes.
