Design Dilemma Bedrooms

Bedroom layout help required

Hi, I hope everyone is keeping well? I'd like some advice on the layout of our bedroom please, we are wanting to keep the bed and a wardrobe (not necessarily the wardrobe that we currently have) and the laundry basket and we will be getting bedside tables, bedside lamps, a mirror, new curtains and a new lightshade and we'd like to buy some pictures for the walls. So firstly, would you keep the layout of the room as it is? And secondly is there anything else we could add to improve the look of this room? We want it to be a calm, relaxing room, we're looking at using light greys and beiges. I'll include pictures of the look we are going for.

Hi Helen,

I would turn the bed 90 degrees and have the longest wall as the feature wall. I think its always best to have the bed as the feature and also the first thing you see when you walk in.

The alcove is ideal for built in wardrobes.

There is plenty of space for bedside tables and a dressing table.

Just a thought, what about putting the bed against the wall of the walk in wardrobe and you can still have your headboard, no need to change or move a radiator and the wife's side of the bed would be next to the wardrobe entrance. It's all a bit cramped by the looks of things and while you'll have your ensuite and your walkin wardrobe you'll still be walking into a box room. Another thought I had to to lose the bedside cabinets and increase the appearance of space would be in to have the bed side lights on the partition wall and the storage built into the stud wall with pull out shelves for those breakfast in bed moments and cups of tea. Change the door to open onto your landing as well!!! Good luck

i meant to have the bed over the existing wall and part of the alcove like this, with the blue bit being built to look like a wall, but with access through a simple door... Depending on type of bed headboard you could have recessed shelves built into the storage above and/or beside the bed to act as bedside table.

Hi Joe, I've come up with an option for you, I hope it gives you some inspiration! I've proposed creating a 'dressing area' around the large window with wardrobes and a dressing table. It's good to have a dressing table by good natural light. I've put the bed where it's going to get you the most walk around space. In front of the bed to make use of the space I've included a large low level chest of drawers, you could either have some nice artwork/mirror above, or if you're a TV in the bedroom person that's an option. You could get some large bedside tables here as there is the space. In the corner I've put a bedroom chair, which is always handy for throwing clothes on to at the end of the day. I don't know if it's an option, but I've proposed rehanging the ensuite door as it feels awkward currently. I hope that helps! I’m not sure if this would work as would need all measurements. Can the bed go on the left wall (that the boiler is on) with 1 bedside table*. A tall slim chest of drawers on the wall adjacent to the boiler with a wardrobe with sliding doors next to the chest. Hooe that makes sense. You could look for a small floating drawer with a mirror above to double up as a dressing table

Do you have a floor plan with dimensions?

Do the double doors lead to a en-suite bathroom?

Obviously without dimensions and a plan of the room it's difficult to be sure.

Possibly though ... if the bed can fit next to the slim double doors and it leaves enough room between the bed the window wall, I would then put the wardrobe in the alcove (where the bed is now). This will allow a better entrance into the room, access to whatever is behind the double doors and a nice dressing area away from the window. Add a nice sized mirror (opposite wall to double doors) and accessorise the rest how you want, with the help of the nice images you selected above.

Hope that helps, even though it's a bit hit and miss if it fits and works. Good luck :))

Thank you, I've added the floor plan. Behind the doors is just a large shelved cupboard

Those plans don't seem to match the photos? There is no alcove on the plans?

No there isn't, not the best floor plan as I've just checked the measurements and the room is 4m x 3.3 (Purple bricks did the floor 🙄 ) The alcove measurements are 2.47m x 4m
