Can you confirm...did you leave the wall sheetrock and the only trim is the 1x2 MDF Trim? My carpenter said he didn't think that would look great and that I should trim the whole wall out...I'd love to save the money and just do the 1x2. Pls confirm. Thanks. Also, can you confirm what brick you used and what color paint? LOVE this room.
Yes we placed 1x2 on top of the hand texture dry wall. Finish trim guys are used to putting down 1/2inch MDF for a sooth wall look. We do that some times as well and it does look good but thats not the design of the 1x2 wall accent. Keep in mind the walls are not always strait so the finish trim guy needs to make sure the 1x2 is strait and the painter can caulk the gaps that are left behind the trim and the wall. If the finish trim guy nails his trim tight the 1x2 will look wavy. It want be perfect but it will be better this way. I hope that makes sense. Good luck with what we call The Solitude wall accent.
Just be realistic and know that any horizontal surface, even a tiny one, will need occasional dusting. A long fuzzy-tipped dusting stick will do it quickly. I also like the way the strips add texture to an otherwise ordinary flat wall.
