I wouldn't have that, some kitchen units on tiles, some units on wood, the stools on wood...

You have an open plan layout and I do think it's best to keep flooring same throughout.

In your case I'd say it's even more important to keep flooring same as you will avoid all the problems you see...

Why do you not want same flooring?

I just think in a kitchen area, it’s more practical to have a tiled floor rather than wood (which you shouldn’t really get wet etc).

Personally, unless it was a really large space I would keep it the same, but if you don’t want to what about this idea.

We have similar, overhanging worktop/cupboards on one side and have stopped tiles where your red line is and then wooden floor. It looks fine; think it would look odd done any other way. H x

Karndean has some pretty terrible reviews on TrustPilot... makes me nervous. We are a large family, dog etc so would worry about scratching.

The builder is proposing tiling the whole kitchen area including the island area and stopping at the final cupboard so the entire kitchen has the same floor.

So another option to consider. Will keep trawling through pinterest for inspiration!

Wood effect porcelain tiles is another option, then the whole floor the same. Does anyone have those?

Stumbled across these.. quite a good idea to incorporate the tiles whilst still maintaining a wood floor throughout...

Using tiles as a ‘rug’ works in open plan and blending like the previous posts ... but in my personal opinion, having all the flooring the same throughout, makes for a more cohesive look.
