Which way does your kitchen face?

Do you benefit from southerly light? Light reacts with paint, changing how it appears so that will help with your colour choice.

Ammonite is a lovely warm neutral that can look white in bright sunlight and warm grey in cooler lights - It's a great barely there colour in sunnier rooms and a pale grey tone in west/easterly facing rooms with cooler natural light.

I always tell all my clients to paint out a piece of A3 paper, blu tack it up and walk past it morning, noon and night with their preferred colour. You've got to love it in all lighting situations and it's got to set the mood of the room you want.

Quintessentially - how do you want the room to feel - start there and then the colour choice will pop out at you. Sunny and bright, dark and moody, classical and timeless...? Are you trying to increasing the feeling of light to balance the darker units or are you embracing the bolder colour tones?

thank you for this. Its a North facing room but gets plenty of light as we've just got bifolds fitted. we get the sun in the morning through the 2 bottom windows. i wanted a light colour that wasn't white. maybe ill reconsider ammonite! its looks very different in different pics and dark in our kitchen I think

Ah brilliant, that cooler light will make it seem darker but it is one of the brighter warm greys they do. I have just had my Client's paint it in their kitchen and their room is westerly facing. It looks different on every wall but it's an excellent colour choice.

You could also try and choose a colour with yellow undertones to counteract the cooler light coming in, that would warm and brighten a colour up and still sit nicely next to the blue- something like f&b tallow or lime white if you weren't keen on grey but wanted to keep it looking neutral. Definitely look for warm greys as oppose to the cooler ones -f&b have great blurb next to their paint colours on their website which will let you know about their base colours and pigments which will help you.

Earthborn do some lovely warm colour options too if you can't quite find what you're looking for in a lovely range and their coverage is fabulous.

I think you’re right to go neutral as you don’t want anything to detract from your lovely units and tiles. How about F&B Wevet? It’s a lovely off white with a tiny hint of grey. A bright, clean white is All White but it may look harsh in a north facing room? Wimborne White looks warmer. Here’s Wevet and Wimborne. The last pic is Wimborne White with Card Room Green.

I too would suggest Wevet. I’ve had this for my kitchen and the colour has that mere hint of grey.
