Renovating DIY Bathrooms

Bathroom box out - HELP

Hi all! My first post here so hopefully this is okay... My boyfriend recently did our bathroom renovation and the finishes on the box outs he created are not good to say the least. Does anyone have any recs for what could be done to improve this, I guess a strip or similar that could be applied on top of the tiles at this stage? The rest of the bathroom looks great as you can see in the other pic :)

He has done a fabulous job! Is he a tiler? I can see the box shelf edges are a bit untidy. He should have used a tile trim whereby half the trim sits behind the tile and half or less creates a clean edge. As the tiling is done and set, I wonder if a bullnose edging strip all around might neaten it? It may be too bulky, I’m not sure. I would visit a tile shop when lockdown is over and peruse their selection of tile edging strips. This is a couple of the designs but there are more.

Yes the tile trim would have made it look neater, although it a pretty good job. As you say if you lined the sides again and made them 5 / 10mm proud of the tile, you can put a silicone bead around the outside to finish it off. This assumes that the material you are using is coloured all the way though, so the edge looks good.

That makes absolute sense. We're going vinyl but cheap and it needs to be boarded but a friend is doing that. If it rips we can then replace really cheaply. Yes, a mirror is a must as the window is quite small with obscured glass. We only moved last year but the en suite didn't appear to have ever been used. It's nice but with porcelain tiles that are a nightmare to keep clean. We got lucky with the bathroom. Fittings are quite old but it's wood panelled all round with a cast iron bath and a couple of sash windows. It did have yellow walls and a dark green bath but I painted the bath black with elephants breath on the panelled walls. I'm going to repaint the walls though as it's not a real wow and it could be. I'm just working up to it though as painting wood panels is not an easy task!

Please can I get some design and layout advise. My thoughts were to turn the bath, the window is getting bricked up due to the extension we are building and a room will be on the other side of that wall. I was thinking of having the toilet and sink either side of the door. If there are any other layout options I'd love to here them? We are happy to knock walls around and put any stud walls up for storage and shelves. Again, just not sure where to put them.. Attached is the current bathroom, my proposed floor plan and ideas I like. Would love it if anyone can help me with some decisions :)

Hi. I'm a bit confused, have you bought the vanity and are looking to paint it? Is the rest of the bathroom fitted as you could add brass or copper taps for instance with a matching mirror? Accessories will also warm it. I like a little wooden stool in a bathroom which you can add accessories to i.e. A candle, natural sponge, flannel etc which has some texture. A plant on the window sill if you have one and then nice accessories for the sink and either some coloured towels or I like hammam ones. I've found a couple of pics but they may not post as houzz has issues :( These are using deep rich colours which may bring the cabinet towards you a little. A darker top for the vanity would also work

Are you wanting to only replace the shower or re-design the entire bathroom? To replace the shower, the toilet and radiator are too close to appreciate having a walk-in shower without the floor getting very wet. If you don't mind the radiator getting wet, then you could potentially replace the shower tray with a rectangle one and have a wet shower panel on the side where the toilet is and walk in from the radiator side. However, a plumber will be able to determine the extent of the work to make it possible. You have another radiator next to toilet? Is it possible to remove the towel radiator? and add electric underfloor heating if the other radiator doesn't give off enough heat?

Ask your local tile supplier to try and source a decorative trim that can be stuck on with silicone

As the others have said he should have used a tile trim at the point of fixing the tiles.
