Brickslip Question

Hi, any assistance welcome!

We're just having a new extension and we would like to have brickslips on a large wall. We plan to have ceiling to floor brickslips ( no skirting ), the question is do we install the flooring before or after the brickslips?

Flooring first. The brick slips need something to sit on. If in future years you decide to remove the brick slips by sitting them on the floor you won’t have a gap.

I guess companies and products can vary business to business, We are aware from customers we speak to who have received samples from companies that not all people who advertise having genuine brick slips actually do there strange mixes of plastic, ceramic replicas etc. However The Brickslip Brothers do sell and even install genuine authentic products and there are methods in treatments available to helps blend the style, there so many unique advantages to this product, I am sorry for the experience you had with the company Titiankim, if its something you ever consider looking at again get in touch, all the best The Brick Slip Brothers.

These are my Japanese acers, I selected the shorter varieties since the drive isn't huge. The red one is approximately 10yo, the other two are 6-7 yo. They grow quite slow and stay compact,in my opinion. I tried to take the photos in front of our Cooper so you get the idea of the sizes. They are Garnet (2+ m) Bi Ho (2m) and Winter Flame (1.5m and it grew 50cm during the last three years). Acers can be shaped, I'll be removing some lower branches to add some structure. They are gorgeous in autumn and passers-by often stop to admire.

Hi, so I think there are a couple of considerations here: - Is the space big enough in terms of safety as well as aesthetics. The safety aspect is a question for a specialist so I'd ring one or two local woodburning stove companies, send them your pics and ask their advice. They'll also need to advise you on your chimney arrangement. - Assuming you can go ahead, what to do in terms of surrounding decor. I think if you want a brick surround like your inspiration picture, you'd need to have decorative brick slips laid on top of the bricks you've unearthed - they look like they're the house bricks which were never intended to be on show and therefore they're unlikely ever to look pretty. But you could also have that area plastered or I'm sure there are other solutions. But I think the safety/is it possible question is the first one you need to have answered, then move on to how make it look good. Hope that helps?

Unless, of course, you want to change the floor later on, in which case it might be a nightmare trying to pull it out from under the brick slips without pulling them off or damaging them.

I wouldn't sit the brick slips directly on the floor. They are no different to wall tiles. Most brick slip systems attach directly to the wall. I would leave a very slight gap.
