Comments (6)thanks everyone for your comments. apologies for the delay in response, i was having technical difficulties which seem to have resolved. i see your point about play area being large- but this is actually where we live most of the time (1 baby and 1 toddler have free reign here!!) and it's perfect for us, being easily accessible from (but not inside) the kitchen. i would call it a family room/ play room, whereas the other living room is the "adults only" chill out zone. the layout with the utility at the entry of the kitchen is appealing - thank you for this. however we were hoping to save costs and keep our current kitchen units and worktop which are adequate. maybe changing the doors of the units to give it a fresh look. we will be relaying a new floor with underfloor heating to match the existing and extended parts of the kitchen. i am sad about losing that window though, with the "best view in the house". i also use that window a lot to dissipate cooking smells etc, and the view to my lovely garden will be missed if we do it this way. however it does mean that the utility can be used as a mudroom for leaving dirty boots, pushchair, bringing groceries in etc. any further thoughts on this appreciated....See MoreHouse to flat conversion. Comments (14)Hi. For the ground floor, I'd move the ensuite door to the bed with bay the other side of the chimney breast and where the door was have wall to wall wardrobes (in the en suite) with good extraction and swap the bath to a shower, For the other bedroom I might move the entrance door as that seems the best place for wardrobes with the bed by the window? Is the chimney breast staying? It will create a long corridor but I might consider a storage cupboard next to the WC. For the top floor, for the narrower room I'd replace the ensuite with wardrobes. Utilities allowing I'd make the former bed 3 into an ensuite. If there's room to move the bedroom door again that top wall looks the most suitable place for wardrobes....See MoreExtension floorplan no.9 lol :-)
Comments (7)Are you planning on a dining table? Is this the whole ground floor of the house? Is it a family house? My first thoughts are that anyone needing the loo, is having to cut through right in the middle of the cooking area between sink and hob to get to the loo. If its only a flat that might not be a problem, but I would never dream of that for a family size home. Also, I know its just a sketch, but I wouldnt have a sofa overhanging your patio doors. I would get a sofa that fits on the back wall better. Do you have a sketch with the actual measurements. Are you planning stools at your 'island' - if so, they would be blocking some of the doors (something that needs to be thought about if its bifolds/sliding)...See MoreOpinions on extension floor plan with kitchen/diner/living/loft
Comments (3)Thanks both of you for your feedback. Just on a couple of points... we prefer to have the kitchen in the middle of the house so we can keep the extension space for dining/living. It's not meant to be our main TV area, but we woukd prefer seating areas at the back to socialise and take in the garden vires. Prefer not to have the sofa or dining area in the centre. Re the corner pantry, if it's just the look that's the main criticism and it doesn't affect the flow, I'm yet to have my head turned against it. I'd prefer that to avoid a corner base unit. Regarding the bedroom config, we will probably tweak. Bedroom 5 is currently the study and thought we wanted the 2 loft bedrooms as kids rooms, leaving 1 and 2 as master and guest bedroom/playroom/study. It'll probably change when we get the space, but for now nothing structural is changing so we are not set in anyway, apart from 2 beds in the loft. Agree about the cupboards by the front door, it was just put there as a place holder, so we haven't really confirmed that space layout yet. With regards to the kitchen/living/diner layout, we have used the instagram account the_reno_project as our inspiration (after months of trawling, we liked this one) so maybe that's a good idea of our vision. Thanks again...See More- 5 years ago
