Furniture Design Dilemma Kitchens

Bar Stools Advice

Looking for idea for contemporary bar stools. Don't want them to loook like they belong in a pub or a cocktail bar, though ! Would like them to have a back for support, probably black legs and preferably not too splayed . Kitchen will be charcoal grey with wood floor. Any pointers ?

Maybe have a look at Cox and Cox - they have a relatively large selection and they’re lovely. They’re pricey - but if you’re in no rush, they often do large discount codes.

I have lived in two places with breakfast bars in American style kitchens. I found that I tended to spend a great deal of time sitting there so a bar stool with a comfortable back is important. I made mine from pine, copied from some I saw in a bar. I was also given an old captains swivel seat from a yacht so I built a stand for it, reupholstered it and unfortunately left it for the new tenant who liked it. That was one of my favourite seats, to sit in comfort at a breakfast bar rather than balancing without a back to lean on.

If you want the seats to swing out from the island be sure to check that the island is substantial enough to take the load, also that the island is well anchored to the floor. If you consider the arm is for example 2 feet long, then sitting on the extende seat will be the same as applying your full weight to a crowbar, two people sitting on one side would destroy a normally constructed island. Similarly, if fitted to a wall make sure that they are anchored well and that the wall structure is suitable. A nice idea to save space though

Hold your nerve - they regularly do 25% and also throw in the occasional 30%.
My brother got his from there and they’re fab.

Just be careful with Cox & Cox, they don't make their own unique stuff, they buy from others and sell on. I bought a light from them £90, then saw it advertised elsewhere for £40..... I did make sure I got the difference back!!!

Funny you should say that Ellie , I did exactly the same with a string of Christmas lights . i bought a set from them at around £50 then when they arrived they were in a branded box which I googled and found them at half price elsewhere ! Sent Cox and Cox’s back.
