Small Chapel Renovation - Window Challenge

We are renovating a small chapel and the original windows, which were bricked up, are being opened up. They now span two floors as the original interior was full height but now has an extra floor. We are looking for examples of windows that span both floors (ground floor and upper floor). How does the floor meet the window and what does it look like from outside?

Most times this is done by taking the floor almost to the windows and leaving a small gap (maybe a couple of inches or the full depth of the window) with a banister or toughened glass cover. This then doesn't impact the exterior much. But if the windows were bricked up, and you are going to have to have new frames then you could have them designed to detail the floor into them.

Oooh sounds intriguing. I viewed a flat once in a converted chapel and the floor bisected the arched windows. It looked good inside and from the outside it was quite hard to tell what was going on as the windows were textured so there was no obvious floor visible.

I'm back - lots of 'stuff' went to charity, house looking better but still a loft full! That will change as I'm selling loads to support both my Church funds and a children's charity which I'm cutting off my hair for!!! They make wigs for children who've lost hair due to cancer. I've got about 10 inches so far and I'm hosting a supper, auction and haircut night in the spring - want to grow a couple of inches more for 2 wigs. It costs the charity £350 per wig so need twice that & I'll be a happy shorthaired bunny. My paid helper is a little prone to not quite finishing jobs so next week it's that, then up in the loft to have a good sort. I WAS a compulsive shopper - she's put paid to that and made me see sense - so all of my beautiful items, brand new, tags on, have to go!!!!! Cathartic or what!

Hi all, Thank you so much for all the helpful comments and suggestions, and sorry that it's taken me so long to respond - house renovation and work have been keeping us on our toes! This has become a long post, so a quick reminder - we were looking to renovate and rewire our 60s house to update it and also make it more wheelchair friendly downstairs for when my mother-in-law comes to visit. We employed an architect and came up with what turned out to be an 'aspirational' design (much more than the budget!) so we ended up deciding to split things into two stages: Stage One to add a downstairs wetroom for accessibility, remove chimney throughout and add a porch Stage Two to do the extension across the rear, removing the conservatory to open out a large kitchen/diner and add a utility room The layout below shows both Stages One and Two as complete. Bits shown in red are existing walls which have been/will be removed (apart from the wall in red in the seating area below which is between the existing kitchen and dining room - that's a mistake). So.....the building work is now done - hurray! Stage One is complete, we are much poorer, and we now need to decorate the whole house :-) Some before and after photos below - please bear with the terrible photography skills. The rooms aren't big enough to allow for expansive photos!: We've re-plastered throughout, apart from in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom, as we'll deal with those later. Current challenge is deciding how on earth to pick paint colours and flooring throughout.... Anyway - hopefully that gives you a sense of where we've got to. Best wishes

Hi, thanks for the link and a good idea, I will look into this. I think this could work if the bed stayed in its original position but I may need to loose the headboard. The dimensions for the room are 2.3m x 4.7. Which I think is going to be challenging. Thanks
