Hi, you have a lovely house with plenty of options - here's one.. I would put in a hall to separate your living room (privacy and cozy). Make the first half of the former garage into a den / office / small spare room? Second half could be a new larger  kitchen open to the dining room (water and drainage there for bathroom above). Current kitchen and loo could then be full bathroom with utility space and bootroom area inside the door. I think there's something about stairs needing direct access to an outside door, so that's why I knocked through to back hallway.

Thanks for this idea. We had considered a hallway but it would reduce the living room to just over 2m (think the measurements are a little bit off in the pic). Do you think there is another way of doing it without eating into a room space too considerably? We've also only just formed the 2nd reception room and I think my husband would kill me if I wanted to change it again haha. I'd really love to hear any other ideas you have

Where is the door into your new reception room? What do you use the two rooms for? Maybe is is the defacto cozy living room and then your current lounge doesn't need to be closed off. Your kitchen seems small and would be the main focus; depending on future plans I'd always like to have a downstairs shower loo and at least temporary bedroom. Luckily it looks like you have a detached house so it's easier to move plumbing etc.

So the door of the second reception room is in the middle of the room, door goes inward.
