Both solid and cavity walls?

Hi,
I am currently purchasing my first home and I have just seen the full EPC certificate.
On it it says the mid terraced house has cavity walls which are insulated, but also solid walls which are 'assummed' not to have insulation. It doesn't indicate which os the walls are which. The property has not been extended and is a 1940s ex-council house in Britain.
Were houses built with a combination of both cavity and solid walls in the 1940s? And if so how can I ensure all walls are adequately insulated?
