Yea, need to have a careful think as you say Maths wife! I was hoping to have units along the all opposite the door! Which would then risk the table being pushed slightly off centre.. but don't want it to look weird, as aware that others may use it as a separate living area! and don't want massively off centre lights! (also slightly annoyingly I think one will need to move about 20cm to the side lol!) I think part of my confusion (with the kitchen) is that in our current kitchen ( slightly smaller than the new one) we have 8 spots! and still have a corner thats dark when you're working in it! (but I think that's more due to poor placement) but the electrician only quoted for 6, which again I think will leave a dark corner near the utility. I also want them to line up with the living room area, so if we ever opened it up more and took out the double sliding doors, it doesn't look silly! lol so much to consider! (I realise they're not quite lined up in that plan) @Space Cat, it's definitely not something we'd considered! so thank you for giving us another option! I think we're going to stick to normal plugs as we often put the lamps on timers.. and move things around etc. :-)

Hi ! Just looking at your plans briefly - it’s clear that due to cabinetry on all four walls - you won’t get a very big table in there ! You mentioned no wall units due to having enough storage elsewhere - but - if you had wall cabinets storage and storage to the patio doors on the top wall - you could take off some perimeter cabinets to give room for a table that’s larger than ‘just’ a four seater one ? There’s a lot more that could be done with this space in my professional opinion. Re colours - in a north facing room if you chose ‘winter’ colours you will need to warm it up a tad with woods and other tricks like tactile accessories. Scandi style for example uses whites and pale greys warmed up with pale woods and real or faux animal fur on benches or seats to add warmth ... Alternatively brilliant white cabinetry on pale Egyptian Cotton walls can look great too and is warmer than most grey toned paint . re lighting - if this drawings is true and it’s a flat extension then lighting could be LEDs in ceiling throughout - but if the new part is a vaulted ceiling then cable lighting might work or stronger LEDs higher up could also work but there will be a shadow line where the change in height happens. ... To summarise, this is ok - could be better and if worked on by someone with more of a ‘design driven’ background - time could be spent trying different colours for you and looking at lighting options and the table would be included in the drawings to show you what space you actually end up with ... you could see what it could look like in a more real image. Hi, I suspect that most of the ones that don't say mains powered are in-fact mains powered! As to whether they are easier to fit, that really depends on where the lights are to go and how near some electrical power is! Battery lighting is a possibility but only really for accent lighting although with the low power consumption of LED bulbs they are a lot better than they used to be!

Just about to start new kitchen/ diner extension and trying to figure out lighting options over the island which will have the hob on it. Problem is the island will span across existing kitchen and into extension which will have higher vaulted ceiling - this makes the mood lighting options a bit tricky without a flush ceiling. I don’t like the option of pendant lights over the island with one hanging from the vaulted ceiling on a much longer cable. I wondered if there are cooker extraction hoods (which we will have over the hob) available which have built in ambient lighting for the island as well as downlighting for the hob…has anyone come across such a design and can recommend any?
