Most durable kitchen door front

Hi

We have a three young kids plus a cockapoo puppy who loves to scratch walls, kitchen units and windows. We are embarking on changing our kitchen and would welcome advice/views on the most durable door front for an active family - particularly one with a set of nails!

We are happy with colour or natural wood.

A melamine finish will be the hardest wearing. Lots of the wood effects are melamine.

A melamine faced chipboard door (mfc) would be a very cost effective door and if it gets damaged, its cheap to replace. There's literally hundreds of colours and woodgrains to choose from, suppliers like ba valore, egger, swiss krono, kronospan, xylocleaf, alvic to name just a few, some of the modern laminates are also anti fingerprint, anti scratch and micro scratch repairable (but not for puppy scratches). For a more upmarket premium door, they can be made from solid acrylic (parapan), so in theory scratches can be polished out, doors can also be made using dekton, which is a worktop material made by cosentino that is thin enough to be used as a door facia and is very hardwearing. But tbh, most doors will get damaged by a dog jumping up so i'd be inclined to wait till your dog has grown a bit and calmed down.

I think the option of having the tv under the stairs.. Is the best idea.. Maybe have a tv, media unit made to measure if possible .. Draws or cupboards underneath for storage. Small shelves at the sides for little ink-naks. If needed.. A smaller maybe glass oblong table in front of the window. The table will still allow light through.. Making sure passable through to the stairs.. And the sofa on the back wall.. Lovely rug in the centre with coffee table or chest for extra storage if needed... Maybe some open floating shelves off set above the sofa. Use an accent colour with accessories.. From the rug or cushions.. Don't go overboard with large piece of furniture... Simple statements....

Hi Minnie thank you for the help darling, yes we will mirror the right side porch brick column then split the as rest sidelights. Nice and centered for my symmetry obsessed brain. I think I know what you mean about the horizontal bars, especially as they would have to work with the panels in the doors and I can't really see how that would work. I am still fighting with the idea of plain glass though, not sure how I could get to see some modern clear glass leaded panels?? I have this strong gut feeling that adding a bit of detail to the panels will make the whole entrance feel nicer. Colour wise I think would rather have a little contrast especially as we have the garage door as well, but I'm not feeling the stronger colours. I am considering light blue from farrow and ball, too safe????

Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?

Personally I'd sort the dog out first (train) before getting anything new.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Unfortunately, the kitchen needs replacing now so we will look at the suggestions, oh and train the dog and kids! :-)
