You need to comply with building regulations to remove the doors, however a lot of people do remove them, me being one of them! We use ours as a dining area too and it flows through from the kitchen. I'm prepared for the issue to come up if/when we sell and we would offer to have the doors put back on, but I doubt the buyer would want this anyway. I know some people have found it cold in the winter, we haven't had a winter yet but do have underfloor heating.

Thank you for your views Jonathon. So, when you suggest changing layout what do you mean? We initially looked at through our existing patio door having a door straight out to garden but decided this would limit space internally like you mention and also be a bit of a wind tunnel. So the design is through our existing patio/ a full wall to right , windows ahead and the external door out to the left (longest part). The dimensions are 3.5x4.5 with the shortest part out the garden and length along house. Leaving living room window on right open for light.

Hi Firstly the new low-e glazing would make a considerable difference to the thermal properties of your conservatory. When used in conjunction with modern upvc profiles the efficiency is increased due to the pockets within the plastic structure of the profile. Comments above discuss opening the wall between the house snd the conservatory. You cannot do this and leave it as an opening without doors. The conservatory is not considered as part of the dwelling and therefore needs a final exit door between the two rooms. Personally I think it spoils a lovely property, however if it is valuable space and you are still unsure talk to a few independent window companies and not the big national one that is stylish and safe! Look up low e glass, there will be detailed info on how this works from the manufacturers of the glass such as Pilkingtons or St Gobain.

Grey! This will make your home look more contemporary. I agree with David you could look at a more robust roof such as an orangery so you still get the light but a more sturdy structure. You can get some very trendy design which don't need to cost the earth, It will be easier to keep clean too. Our glass conservatory was a little tricky to clean. You may wish to think of snow guards to the guttering too. We had a house years back with a lovely conservatory but no snow guard. Not sure of your geographical placement but could be worth considering. The other thing to consider is if you will have the same colour on the inside - SORRY if you haven't thought that far ahead yet.
