Hi, I am pulling my hair out trying to come up with a decent lighting scheme for this living room. The walls are bare and the ceiling is removed so can be wired as required, house is 100 year old semi, no features except the log burner/ fireplace and maybe the bookcase and pictures? The ceiling is 2.4m and it's north facing.

So would you place the main pendant centre to the seating zone or the room? If centre to seating zone then shadow behind sofa, less so if centred but feel the part of the living room at the back by the computer desk would be too dark?. Have the pendant and "something else" to come on?

We are thinking 2 floor lights one by side of chair and one by far side of sofa but if a little table is put there will it look too busy? We would like to be able to read at the sofa and the chair. Could use wall lights on chair wall and window wall but think we would prefer the look and versatility of floor lights.

Table lamp on sideboard aswell?

The computer desk is throwing me aswell, because at a later date it might be moved upstairs but not for years so I'm thinking not having lighting that would look out of place if the table went somehow, it's really stumped me. I'm thinking maybe a couple of adjustable spots in the ceiling above the desk on the light switch next to it or maybe track lighting but would have to be of the same style as the main pendant? Does the route to the computer table need to be lit on the switch that turns the pendant on? On another switch at the entrance?

Then there's the accent lighting! We are seeing it that the fireplace and the bookcase maybe but then thats all just highlighting one corner of the room and would be odd!

Would a light switch on far wall reachable from sofa be useful?

If anybody has some suggestions as to what to do in this situation we would be forever grateful as we really are pulling our hair out!!!!
