How to decorate window on landing
We have this window on our first floor landing, we will not be putting blinds as we love the natural light and brick, though need to make sure it is aesthetically appealing bringing an element of elegance and minimalist. I love this stone and would love for it to be here

Comments (8)I would go for greys and whites to give it a spacious feel. If light is an issue try elephants breath by F&B as it will warm the area. Remove all the paper and paint walls. I personally think the dado would look good in white and will match your doors. Panelling under the dado could also look good and wouldn't date. You could try a diy version as shown in pic as panelling is dear. The laminate in the hall looks good so would keep this and personally would go for a neutral colour on the stairs or even try a stripe. you could try blinds instead of curtains. I would also add a couple of big statement lights on the hall and landing. Comments (2)Hi Grace, wallpapers are a great way to add interest in a space, I'd suggest selecting a paper that doesn't have a vertical pattern as it will make the stairway feel taller and narrower. Ideally a paper with an overall pattern, or a horizontal pattern would work best. Here a few ideas: design option 1 & design option 2. I'd recommend adding a radiator cover; as well as hiding the radiator it will also provide a shelf to add photo frames &/or a flower arrangement, as long as you've got enough space on your landing! Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Comments (11)Once the house is yours surely you don’t have to ask permission from the developer to make changes do you? I think you’ll find it won’t be a huge cost to replace it with clear glass. A decent handyman can do that for you. Or in the meantime paint it white to blend with the window and door....See More- 2 years ago
I like those, love a rustic vase! My only worry is it may not be tall enough? I found the black vase info and it’s quite pricey but Dunelm do a nice black ceramic one.

@sonia do you think this would not be tall enough? I was in dungeon and the have the black tall vase in varied colours - I loved the cream one. Silly me didn’t take pictures

Why were you in a dungeon? 😂 I really like it especially if you put some twigs, faux flowers or pampas fronds in it. Hard to gauge how tall it is from your picture though. Do you like these at all, both pretty tall. First is Dunelm and second from Next. Next have an amazing selection of vases but probably available online rather than in store.
