glass backsplash help

I’d like to lighten up the backsplash by changing it to a white / grey marble effect. A local glass backsplash company have said for a marble look they would print an image from a website called shutterstock is this high risk? What if it’s a crummy image or doesn’t turn out right? Anyone had experience of this kind of thing? Photo of kitchen provided alongside an inspo pic (appreciate it’s probably real marble!)

If you’re looking for a solid colour to show as opposed to a vein then just have a clear glass splashback and paint the wall behind in whatever colour you prefer. The paint will then show through the clear glass and it gives you the option to change it as often as you want.

You can get laminate splash backs in a marble design, so that might be an option? Not sure of the quality but you could look at reviews.

Hi there, I would definitely go for glass & not tiles. Glass is much easier to keep clean! As for colours, if you have French grey units you could look at a slightly iridescent silver which would compliment well. Be careful with some colours if you are going to be a bit bolder as they will reflect & alter the appearance of the French grey on the cabinets. Get some samples & look at them in different areas under the units - the corners will look darker/lighter depending on natural light & if you have recessed lighting under the units.

Hello...great units...I've just ordered similar in cream (again!). In my last house we used bespoke acrylic sheets as splash back (and behind gas range) and I never had any problems with heat. However, for your own peace of mind you might want to get bespoke strengthened glass cut to size. I painted the inside of the acrylic sheet coral (to match the facing wall and it worked very well. This time I think I will use paper (gift wrap or similar...wallpaper might be too thick) with a small repeat pattern, perhaps a retro design, and paste this to the inside of the acrylic/glass. Affix with mirror screws and seal with clear sealant to prevent steam/condensation, etc... Acrylic is cheap to replace if your design preference changes after a few years.

Have you considered a mirror? This would not only work well with your colour scheme but would provide a more spacious feel by reflecting the colours already in your kitchen. If you felt more adventurous tinted mirror glass. When using glass behind a cooker you can use plain or toughened for heat resistance but ultimately what should be considered is durability. In this location where it is likely that pots and pans could knock the splashback toughened should used. If you commissioned us for this installation then toughened glass would be provided as standard and we could explore different options for glass colour or backings if mirror didn't take your fancy. An upstand sits on the worktop and is around 4" high. A splashback normally fits behind the hob area to prevent splashes ruining the wall. You can have one or both fitted.

You could look for a very large format marble effect porcelain tile. It would look very neat with narrow grout lines. The only expensive part is the cutting around the sockets. It's hardwearing, super easy to clean and probably cheaper than glass. You can get them right up to 1200mm x 600mm and larger.

It can very well be risky if the image is not high quality enough or even if it doesn't translate well onto the glass. Does the company offer mock-ups? or samples? I would suggest making sure they offer image adjustments if something does go awry. Also looking at reviews and perhaps getting a second option from another local company might be necessary

I have just bought bathroom tiles from this company. Samples look exactly like the tiles.

Shutterstock [website] supply high quality images, either photo's videos, AI images etc and they're sold under licence on behalf of the original artist, so there's a massive library of images to choose from so you should be able to see the image before approval. Then the glass is screen printed on the reverse before going through the toughening process, all the glass i've seen which has been screen printed has looked stunning and i'd assume your glass supplier would have pictures and samples of their work [decent sized not little 100mm squares]. Cost wise though your cheapest option would be as Sonia says to go down the laminate splashback route which is a diy option.
