We're planning on redoing our kitchen/ dining area and changing the layout of the kitchen as the current flow isn't great. We want to open it up completely and incorporate an island but the weird angles and shape of the kitchen are confusing us.
1. Move the entry to side, create a hallway there with wc. Kitchen without island in the dining area, raise the window sill to countertop height. I also moved the 'bedroom wing' door to line up with livingroom and hallway, which as a bonus creates extra storage space next to the bathroom.
2. A massive kitchen and island in the family room, large dining table on the side. Use kitchen as lounge. Lovely layout when you spend a lot of time outdoors (there's a covered patio in front of those french doors, right?).
And yes, covered patio outside the french door which we intend to enclose to extend the entertainment area so your suggestion of moving the loung also makes more sense :)
