Advice on electric fireplace
Comments (2)I would recommend a bio ethanol fireplace for a real-fire authentic look and options of many different styles. This usefularticle compares the benefits of electric fries to bio ethanol. If you want a contemporary style non-black fireplace, perhaps a fireplace in steel would work. A fireplace like this will modernise a living space with the silver colour adding brightness to your room. If having two flat rectangular shapes on the wall concerns you, maybe contrast the flat screen TV with a contemporary, circular fireplace. Comments (14)Your surround is probably from the 1930's. There are some interesting tile patterns from that period that would go well with your surround. Look in architectural salvage yards, armed with the dimensions of the opening within the surround. You might be lucky enough to find a copper or cast iron insert-basket. Also, instead of keeping your surround white, consider a deep beige or cafe colour to create a focal point in the room. I would consult a local firecentre regarding a basket for solid fuel or the installation of a gas basket. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTT_IQ7jmkd-NMnaXCxmAs12WYP59IFZAqaBqReho8kPDkwG_fE http://www.c20fireplaces.co.uk/repro-fireplace-insert/rfpi006_craddock-art-deco-tiled-fireplace-insert...See MoreNeed advice on fireplace without working chimney
Comments (13)Of course. The dimensions would depend on the size of the fireplace/burner you would be going for. The opening would have to be made of non-flammable material, such as brick, stone, metal, porcelain tiles, Vermiculite Board, etc. You could use non-flammable paint over that. For example, our freestanding baskets like the one Richard posted above need 60 cm clearance from the bottom to the top; or if you wanted a contemporary line of fire look you could go for our Regulating Bio Containers like the one in the photo below - all required dimensions are available in the brochure with building advice on our website. We hope that helps :) Good luck with the project!...See MoreIdeas or advice on a blank canvas bungalow
Comments (20)What styles do you like? Don't worry if you don't know, I didn't, and there are so many beautiful rooms on here - it's amazing albeit a little overwhelming. Maybe create a folder and just save images you like (of any style) and then go back over your saved photos and delete the ones you actually don't like (it's surprising how often you get a "why did I like that?" moment). Then have a look at your revised list and see what you have been most drawn to. There will always be a few anomalies but in general, there will be some sort of pattern there. I like the fireplace too and when I saw the colour, my first thoughts were navy walls and lots of texture. If navy is a little dark for your taste what about a different shade of blue? Blue and leather look so beautiful together. This would work with your existing items (including the carpet although are you changing this to vinyl?) and also anything new you would like to add in. If you were thinking of changing the kitchen, you could also carry the blue accents into the kitchen. I've included a few photos (of different styles and blues for inspiration) x...See More- last year
