Pool House Help

A very useful and clever pool cover- but rather mechanical looking and so dominant in the view. Any ideas to make it look better?!

Lots of big shrubs in front of it. I like it but then I am quite a fan of industrial style. You could plant a low hedge too but you would have to trim it. Trees make a great camouflage too but could be messy with leaf droppings. You could always add a wooden pergola in front. Nice for shade and would change the view of it. I love the curved sliding roof.

Plant some shrubs (8-10ft) or Trees (20ft +) to divert the eye. If you plant trees put there further out in front just in case the roots spread out. However you will have more coverage with shrubs as they tend to be bushier.

Kirsty--I agree, let caution serve as your guide. There appear to be many unknowns. There should be a record of permits retained by the municipality, which I would get first, as part of your due diligence. Do not purchase this property without tying it up on a contingency feasibilty (design) study, which should be a minimum of 1 month, which is favorable for you to back out and retrieve your earnest money if you can't get what you want with this property. You may need to hire a translator to broker your dealings with the bldg dept and the architect, and later the contractor, unless you hopefully find a bi-lingual option. Dytecture is right, though, find someone who's ego is subordinate enough to explore the options of working within the confines of the existing structure. I hope that you can realize your vision. Would love to see any photos of the New England style cladding, we have a 1960's house that we are updating and are considering both render and cladding. We are making the top windows deeper and are trying to decide whether to use white or grey aluminium/pvc frames. We have had grey (covered in tape in pic) bifold doors installed but can have these powder coated in white if it is better to stick to white windows. Thank you!

I would agree with the previous comments and suggest the following; 1. If DIY confident pick a nice masonry paint colour ( fan of Dulux cobblestone) and paint house brick front and side including side of steps. Paint railings. 2. Purchase two/three garden trellis and cut to size, paint with same colour masonry paint and place around step structure. Plant a few evergreen creepers in front to soften and add colour. 3. Dig a planting area perpendicular to house along driveway from trellis to front entrance and plant with a low evergreen hedge such as box hedging or a mix of box with grasses. 4. Repair lawn. 5. Cut and shape plant/hedge at bend in of garden or remove entirely if in bad shape. Budget of £300 - £500. Best of luck!!

I would build a patio with lovely pots but avoid trees and this will play havoc with the pool.

Work with the pool house and not against it. A new terrace to the opening with architectural planting to the sides like Italian cypress, pleached hedging, topiary and a few splashes of colour. It is a nice shape, use the verticals and horizontals.

The pots and plants are far to small that you have there already, go big and bold.
