TINY Bathroom Layout SOS

Hi all, turning to the community to get some advice on our tiny narrow bathroom. Current layout in the photo, what you can't see is the sink inside the shower. With a small child that is extremely inconvenient. I'm trying to figure out how on this footprint we can better fit: shower, toilet, washing machine (front loader, 45cm deep) and sink. We are doing a refit of the whole house and the bathroom is the last to be tackled, but I keep hitting the wall with it.
Has anyone seen good looking solutions with a sink over a washing machine?

Could you please post some pics? I am not finding it easy to visualise what you mean about the sink and washing machine! It might be easier to see the current setup in situ..

I've popped photos of the current bathroom here. As you can see on the plan, the door will be swapped to open the other way. The boiler will be replaced with a horizontal unit. The rest of the floor plan can be swapped and changed to accommodate what's needed in there :)

I think that one of the problems with this small bathroom is that it's broken into many elements, making the space appear even smaller. The slope is very sculptural but spoiled by the style of window. Would you consider replacing the window with a full pane of glass in a casement or awning style opening? I'd also recommend either removing the tongue and groove boarding and skimming the wall or replacing the boards with T & G that extend from the floor to the ceiling. I'd remove the tiles and replace with T & G as well. Also, to unify the space, remove the ceiling tiles, which look like polystyrene, and the coving to simplify the overall appearance. A paler tint of the blue-green and a simpler window film in a foggy texture will allow more light to enter the room.

Hello! Ours was a small loft room but with sloping roofline as well. We also had a chimney breast to contend with where the wc is 🙈 We put an 800 wide shower in x 1000 long into the alcove and built the wall out so the wc could sit in the alcove. Then built a slimline sink unit (less than 300 deep) along the right side of the shower. Although the pic shows a curtain, we now have a fab frameless bifold door which folds INWARDS so you don’t need space outside for it. Took me months to find and only cost less than £100. It was also short height but you might be able to find an internal swing door at standard height. Our door is in the same place and we have the rad to the left of the door. Both Hansgrohe and (Friedrich) Grohe are German companies; Friedrich was a son of Hans who went on his own in the 1930s, so they share a certain heritage. These days, Grohe is larger and no longer family owned. Both produce outside Germany as well as on their original German sites still. Both produce "basic" and "high-end" ranges. They're both regarded well back home in Germany, much of the choice is down to personal preference. Hansgrohe is on average slightly more expensive (but not on everything). They also own the Axor design brand which has a more "ecletic" selection. One can mix-and-match; in our bath (bit messy, sorry - we're using it for the washing up while waiting for the kitchen to be installed), the mixer is Grohe as is the shower wall outlet, the shower rail and head shower arm (just above the shower screen) are Hansgrohe pieces. At least the chromed finishes are very close for the two: Both can be sourced well below retail list prices - if you're prepared to wait, German online sellers for bathroom goods tend to have many-months delivery timelines. For Grohe essentials (the classical Grotherm mixers) at least, any German DIY shop stocks these at very attractive prices (the difference to the UK retail price list will pay for the ferry ticket and fuel).

We have a bathroom that originally was about 1.72.2, with a bath but we wanted to fit in a bidet (we're Italians 😅). The layout was similar, and the additional 30 cm can be disregarded if you're not interested in a bidet 😁 we took some space from the room next door to get a shower nook, maybe you can do something similar, see photo! (Of course leave the WC where it is now, which would be in place of my bidet). We moved the basin to the left, the nook is 50cm deep which makes a short area of about 12085cm, very comfortable! I'll make a quick plan to make things clearer, but I thought it could be interesting to see a real space and not just a rendering

Are you open to moving the plumbing? The soil pipe is a big expense to move but may be necessary to achieve the layout you are seeking. As you need to fit a front loading washing machine in there the shower has to be much narrower than the 1.22m width think half of that. Is your washing machine 600mm wide? To access the WM it needs to face the door. I would suggest a wet room type shower with a screen to protect the WM and no shower tray. Just tank it all and you will get maximum use out of the space.

The drains can be moved, so any different floor plans are an option if there's a better way to fit everything. If keeping the current floor plan for the most part, the only place a washing machine can fit is in the corner under the current boiler, a 45cm deep unit can fit there and can be opened. But that's also the only place I could fit a sink, so wondering if I can somehow put both in that corner 😅

You can't have a washing machine in a UK bathroom unless it is enclosed. Put a basin where the boiler is. Relocate boiler and washing machine.

We're not in the UK and washing machines here are always in the bathroom :) Even if I wanted to move it elsewhere, there just is no space, it's truly a tiny house.

Your bathroom layout is definitely a tricky one, but some smart solutions could help you make the most of the space.

Sink over the washing machine is a great space-saving option! Many compact vanity units are designed to fit over a front-loading washing machine. If possible, could you move the shower to the opposite wall and have a walk-in style with a glass panel? This might free up space to place the washing machine and sink together along one wall. A wall-mounted toilet and a floating sink (or one integrated with the washing machine) could visually and physically open up more space.

Would you be open to rearranging the plumbing a bit? That could allow more flexibility with positioning everything efficiently. Let us know your thoughts!

I have seen the sink/toilet combination in France and in Australia so it should be available easily if thats the option you choose. I think I saw them in Leroy Merlin in La Rochelle.
