The project has kind of escalated. I was going to replace the appliances, handles & worktops, then thought the off white units would look dirty next to a white worktop, so I'd get new doors. Then a builder told me he would have to replace two off the bottom units anyways as they're waterlogged and the top units annoy me as are narrow and won't hold a dinner plate. So now I'm getting a whole new kitchen. I was thinking of getting rid of the tall unit to give me more surface area, but putting the microwave in a cupboard could be a good idea and save me the dilemma of a stainless steel or white one.

Where is your bin going to be? I end up doing veg prep near the bin as it’s so much easier to put peelings etc in there. I’m guessing your bin will be near your sink and dishwasher, so suspect that area will end up being your prep area even if you put a sink on the island. My parents have a small sink on their island and almost never use it for this reason. If you want to do food prep at the island I would suggest considering moving your main sink and bin there, rather than having an extra small sink. You have a raised breakfast bar so that would hide any sink mess (also if you get a large sink you can put dirty pans in it which helps hide mess while you are eating). Having said that if you use a food waste caddy, that is moveable and you could do veg prep at the island if you had a small sink.

Slide and pivot is a neater version of a bifold. Each pane is independent of the other and when you open the first like a door the others slide up to it and then turn outwards. they have much slimmer mullions than bifolds and give you more glass. I have been put off by the very mixed reviews on after sales service from some brands but they do look fantastic.

I would probably take another look at the run with the range and fridge. I don’t like the wall cabinets cut around the beam. Personally I think you should move the range to opposite the sink, stop the wall units at the ceiling beam. And consider moving the fridge to the opposite end in order to open the door fully. I personally don’t like butler sinks. For me the issue is that the rounded edges don’t meet the underside of a flat worktop well meaning you either get lots of unsightly silicone filler or you get a dirt trap around the rim of your sink. Personally I prefer an under mounted sink (and you can get a white one). You might also look at a Lincoln groove rather that the drainer grooves on side of the sink.
