We have the same type of panelling in our hall and it was oak the same as yours with an oak floor. It just started to feel quite dark and drab but we hesitated to to do anything for fear of messing it up. In the end we painted all the panelling in Farrows French grey, left the doors and floors wood and painted the sides of our staircase and the spindles in Farrows clunch but left the newel posts and the bannister rail as wood - looks like a different hallway - I have never regretted painting it

Hello Lisa, you can easily transform your kitchen into something exciting and with a more contemporary feel. Start by removing the end shelves and keeping the look just as cupboard finish. The worktop squared off both in terms of shape and edging. Painting the cupboards and removing the knobs for either touch open spring mechanism hinges or adding more contemporary knobs! Consider painting the top cabinets to blend with the wall colour you choose and think of the theme you want. I have two tone literally on the same cupboard doors.. But of course there are a million ways to decorate a kitchen. Think of colours first and then the worktop. Look at the light levels and are you replacing anything appliance wise? This might further inform you colour wise. :))

It all depends on so many different things. Warm grey/cool grey - it's all relative. If the room is really sunny with plenty of light then a blue tinged grey can work. Generally though, your floor looks quite a nutty brown and not too orange so pretty much anything should work. Sage greens look traditional, deep greens look fashionable, dark blue and pale grey look lovely but are everywhere, which is fine. Farrow and Ball describe Elephant's Breath as warm but it can look a bit pink and has definite 'walrus' undertones (that should put just about everyone off!) Little Greene Slaked Lime is a set of greys that are good. I would take a look at them as a starting point perhaps. Walrus breath from now on - we need a chuckle at the moment.

Thanks Dual Designs (and by the way that should have been "any advice", not "a advice"... typed too quickly!). The ranges I'm looking at to create this look are both PWS/Second Nature: the Alpina Natural Oak Matt and Porter Carbon bespoke paint colour - so those are the ones I'd specifically asked the designer to work with but he's not keen even though he supplies them (amongst other ranges). I can't find anything on the PWS or Second Nature websites about the doors being lacquered as well as veneered (have sent them a web query but haven't heard back). Does anyone have experience of Second Nature veneered doors specifically?
